Interesting but rumor has it that Sony is working on the sequel to Warhawk and it will allegedly take place in space.

A trademark filed last week by Sony Computer Entertainment America seems to confirm rumors we posted last month of a upcoming Warhawk title set in space.

SCE filed a trademark for Spacehawk on April 9 for a computer or video game and operating a real-time game for others over a global and local area computer network.

Last month we broke the news that Dylan Jobe and other members of Incognito Entertainment had left the company to form their own studio.
We also reported that sources had told us that LightBox Interactive Studio was hard at work on a new take on Warhawk. The game, described as Warhawk in space, has been in development for some time, we reported.

Reached for comment in March Jobe told Kotaku that it was too early to comment on what they were working on, but that they have some "really exciting stuff in development that our Warhawk fans *and* new players will love."

All signs seem to point to Warhawk in space.

We've contacted Jobe for comment and will update if and when we hear back.

If it is as addicting and balanced as Warhawk, then I'm all for it.

Althought I'd buy it on Blu-ray this time. Bloody download!

Sony is going to be testing the latest creation of Lightbox Interactive tomorrow, and the chances of it being the rumored Starhawk is plausible. Since Warhawk, Dylan Jobe has been silent, but it has been known he is working on a new PS3-exclusive title. Finally, new information is coming straight from Jobe's mouth -- or Twitter account -- that Lightbox Interactive will be showing their new game to Sony tomorrow. Just in time for E3.
Dylan Jobe:
"The stuff we still have to improve on, or fix, or oversights that require new development.

Looking forward to all the feedback we're gonna get from the playtest. Interestingly, we really only care about the negative feedback.

Off to SONY tomorrow for our latest milestone review and playtest. Really happy with the progress this month!
"

The title of Starhawk was trademarked last year and no announcement was made at E3 of such a game. Dylan Jobe left Incognito soon after Warhawk released on the PS3 and formed Lightbox Interactive, which he promised a space-based shooter to be their first title. With E3 just under two weeks away, we could potentially see Starhawk at E3. If not that, we should see Lightbox Interactive's latest project soon. Could this be one of Sony's hidden gems for E3?

Just a matter of time. I can't wait to hear more about it.

Its about damn time. I loved me some Warhawk. It was the 2nd PS3 game I got and I played the heck out of it when it came out

lol...Illl beelieve Feb of 2012. I guess a false rumor is better than nothing. Hopefully where theres some smoke, theres fire

I hope that the sequel to Warhawk has a single player campaign. The game's main draw should still be multiplayer, but I feel like having a good single player game too would make it feel like a more complete experience. It should be a game worthy of a $60 full-retail release rather than just being a $30 disc-or-download title.

Yeah Warhawk started out focusing on a single player campaign, but changed during development to full blown MP only. It paid off IMO. I played over 200 hours on that game. It was so well balanced and had a ton of variety gameplay wise. The online was very stable as well. I had very few issues with it. That said, I would love a single player campaign in the sequel. I just hope the MP is as well put together as the first one.

Edit:
TSA is also claiming that Game has the release date of Feb. 4th 2011.

Maybe we will get some news this weekend? I know retail stores use place holders, so the date might not be true.

Yeah, going multiplayer-only for Warhawk was definitely a wise move. Even though the game had no single player it still is one of the PS3's best multiplayer titles, and I've logged a ton of hours into it as well. I hope that Warhawk 2, or Starhawk, or whatever it is will be just as solid in the MP department, and it'd be nice if Sony gives them the budget and manpower they need to make a solid single player / co-op campaign mode. A campaign could also give the game some story context rather than just being battles.

I still need to get Warhawk at some point. Guess I can just wait for Starhawk.

Rumor, but hope it is true.

It may look to be a torrid time for Playstation gamers, with the PSN outage meaning you're stuck with all those single-player games. Eww. However, the world just got much a better place; SystemLink can exclusively reveal that Starhawk, the much-rumoured sequel to 2007's Warhawk, is real - and we've got the first details.

We spoke to a Sony employee who, understandably, wished to remain anonymous. He confirmed to us that a sequel to Warhawk is indeed real, having been in development for a number of years now. It's official title is 'Starhawk'. What follows are all the details we gathered;

- Starhawk will be revealed before E3 2011 - in fact, mid May is the current date for the official public outing.

- The game remains a PS3 exclusive. However, Starhawk will ship only on Blu-ray, rather being a digital title on PSN, and available as a physical disc, like Warhawk.

Lightbox Interactive are developing the title after Incognito Entertainment disbanded
- The main gameplay elements remain much the same. Starhawk is a third-person shooter, with jeeps, APCs, tanks, and now spaceships.

- According to our source, you cannot fly from a planet into space. Some maps are set on a planet, with dogfights taking place in the air, while others are in space, with small areas for ground combat. The game is still set in another universe, so Earth will not feature.

- The game will retain the slightly cartoonish visuals - no ultra-gritty reboot in sight.

- Starhawk runs on a brand new engine that provides stunning visuals, explaining the jump from digital title to Blu-ray disc.

- While the main body of the same is still online multiplayer, there is a single-player component.

- Starhawk is the game Dylan Jobe can't wait to talk about.

This is the first time that Starhawk has been officially confirmed as in development, despite many rumours, and the first time all the features above have been confirmed. And as for the source's reliability, SystemLink can 100% confirm that this information is real and legitimate.

Gear up for Starhawk's official announcement in the upcoming weeks - hopefully, it should take your mind off the PS3's current woes.

This game needs to hurry up and get here.

Oh god I hope so. Its been 4 years since Warhawk came out and this sequel has been rumored for years

You think they'd save it for friggin' E3? But ah well, glad we're finally getting news on this one. I bought Warhawk on the first day of my second to last year of high school and now I'm two years into University; it's taken an age!

Warhawk was the 3rd or 2nd game I got for my PS3 back in 2007. Im not so sure its wise to reveal it now. I mean why reveal the sequel to a game which exclusively utilized the PSN as an online only game when PSN is in the middle of major issues? Id hold off on this if I were them. We've waited long enough. Whats another month till E3?

I wonder if that mech in the first and third pics will go all Robotech on us and can turn into a Starhawk? It looks like it has wings.

Yes, yes, yes and yes. Throughly enjoyed the hell out of Warhawk. Chaotic good times we're had. The mech in the first pic does look like it could possibly transform or it could just be a ground mech. One can dream though, could make way to some very interesting battles and dogfights. :woot:

I might have to jump back on to Warhawk to brush up. It was one of my favorite games for a while. I think I logged in 200+ hours on it, but I have not played in about a year now. Can't wait to see this in motion tonight on GTTV.
