King's IT Remake Lands Writer
Source:The Hollywood Reporter
March 12, 2009

A theatrical redo of Stephen King's "It" has been on the table for years. Now Warner Bros. is partnering with Lin Pictures and Vertigo Entertainment to get it on the screen.

They've enlisted Dave Kajganich (The Invasion) to pen the script and already talks of story changes are underway. According to THR, Kajganich tale is set in present day and will ignore the fact that King's narrative bounces between '58 and '85. The core of the story will still follow a group of youngsters who once took on a creature and are called back together in their adult years to battle "it" one more time.

"It," first published in 1986, was adapted into an ABC mini-series in 1990.

Kajganich has reportedly penned a Pet Sematary remake as well and he's at work on Escape from New York.

I'm cool with that. Loved the book, liked the mini-series, and a new big-screen version sounds good to me. Set in present day - okay. Kinda worried about all the "changes". The narritive can be changed around but the over all story I think needs to stay more the same. But then again, as long as it's about a group of kids who get scared to death and have issues and grow up to reconnect to face those issues, that should be good enough I think.

Pennyworth....man....the Tim Curry's image is just so iconic now and stuck in so many peoples head.

Personaly, I think a straight forward adaptation of the book would be great to see. The book is dark and messed up compared the mini-series version.

Sweet, the original disappoints me because of It being a damn spider. I hope this won't be PG-13. Here's hoping Pennywise is still an evil and scary, and supernatural clown.

"It"? Really??

Wow...I think we just might now be scraping the bottom of the barrel on these remakes...:o :down

Oh god. A remake would be awesome, and would scare the **** out of people. Nothing is scarier than Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

I'd be interested in this, as I ****ing loved the original as a kid, but not so much when I saw it recently.

Loved and was totally scared of the original as a kid. Hated the ending with the Spider but other than that, loved it. Can only hope that a big screen version is good enough. I should read the book sometime.

Has anyone here actually read the book? It's a bit hard to adapt becuase there is sooo much there and a lot of things...well giant talking space turtles across the vast, endless void of space...I dunno, man.

That was my thinking as well. Additionally, lets remember the last film based on a lengthy, nonlinear King novel: Dreamcatcher.

I don't think It can be done in 2 hours, and there is no way in hell the studio will go 2.5+.

The book and the mini-series are almost two seperate things all together. I much rather read the book again than watch the 1990 movie, but I definatly want to see what these people will bring to a remake. I really much rather perfer an atempted stronge adaptation of the book, but there's a few things in the book that would NEVER fly with a studio.

HAHAHA.. That's what I was trying to say, but that **** would NEVER fly with anyone. You'd have that movie banned and have protesters making it a big deal.

I'll be protesting if it isn't there!

Lol,flying giant turtles in space. Hmm,what other stuff from the book is deemable as silly??? OMG,I just thought of something that could be one of the most disturbing moments in a movie meant for theaters. Sex+It as a clown=WTF?? Of course this scene would be filmable if it was a female well doing the screwing with whatever dude it appears and sounds to be. And just when I thought mutated guys from The Hills Have Eyes movies raping a female and sucking on a breast was disturbing.

When I was younger, this used to creep me the hell out.

My little niece is afraid of it. You just say IT and she starts to scream and holler.

I was creeped out by the original and I liked the cast. Whatever happens I hope they can put together an interesting ensemble. Tim Curry's Pennywise was similat to Freddy Krueger so this time around they could play it a little darker and that could really creep people out.

I loved the TV Mini of this, not sure yet how I feel on a new movie version.

I'm all for a remake of IT. I love the original, but they left alot of cool stuff out from the book.

I didn't mean that it was to silly and it didnt come off that way in the book, just that it would be way to out there for a general audience...well unless they were handing out LSD and payote buttons at the door.
