Strange Adventures

I'm undecided at the moment.

Where as the original Captain Comet mini was very good, Holy War was a quite a disappointment despite an interesting plot and good characters. I think ti suffered from over population and his Captain Comet characterisation seemed really out.

Come on, yen, give it a try. I think I'll be the only person reading it if you don't. :(

Personally, I'm more excited to see Adam Strange again than Comet. I skipped all the Adam Strange stuff for the last year or two because they kept putting him in events I didn't want to read or alongside characters I couldn't stand. But now he's back and apparently he got Alanna some spiffy matching threads. Looks cool.

It'll probably end up being one of the books the comic shop put in my box and I'm too polite to turn it down :)

i dropped holy war after #4 because i couldnt afford it, did it end good?

No idea. I read Strange Adventures #1 and was a bit confused in parts, but I pieced things together well enough. Apparently the church from Captain Comet's rebirth series went on to unleash some kind of godlike dude on Rann, Adam Strange saved the people but wound up blowing the planet's atmosphere away while getting rid of the villain, and now the Rannians are hanging out on Throneworld, which somehow lost its population.

So now we've got the Rannians and Throneworld in an alliance, the Throneworld Starman dude trying to convince everyone that his people are still on the planet, the Rannians trying to ascertain whether Adam Strange is a traitor for inadvertently destroying their old planet's atmosphere, Comet hanging out on Hardcore Station again, and the Weird or the church (not sure) recruiting Bizarro for... something. It's a bit confusing and continuity-heavy, but I'm sure I'll figure things out as I go along. The one bit that totally perplexes me is the Weird's involvement.

Yes. I'll be picking this up. The interior art is gorgeous, and I love Starlin's writing. 40 pages per issue is also a good thing.

This was pretty good actually, better than Holy War so far.

The issue before the last one was actually pretty cool. But then the last issue was such an incredible let down after all the awesome build up. HUGE let down.

This first issue was pretty cool. Lots of nice, big panels and full-page spreads. Very nice artwork. The villains are the best thing about it, though. I think it has a lot of potential.

I lost interest in Holy War half way through but I just finished reading this and it was quite solid. If the next 7 issues match up in quality then I wouldn't mind this being brought back as an ongoing.

The second issue is out, and I'm happy. Love the art. I'm not familiar with Manuel Garcia, but the pencils are just scrumptious. Al Milgrom has been around for a very long time, and I know his stuff is always great.

There's a lot going on, here. I could easily see this going on for many months, with all the different story threads. How is it that Adam Strange is the only one who has noticed, or is even able to see these stars disappearing? It should be interesting to see how that is explained.

-I really want to see Hawkman get into the action at some point.

-I want to see some black people...some asians...something. Or at least, some white people with afros. Starlin's presented a huge amount of diversity when it comes to aliens, but it seems like all of the humans in outer space are exclusively white.

Strange Adventures is way better than Rann-Thanagar: Holy War

I dropped it. I liked it, but it's covering a lot of stuff I missed in Holy War and the other recent space stories that I didn't read. Plus, it's not super-great and I've gotta try harder to stick to a budget, so the mid-level good-not-great titles get cut.

Yeah, I sorta need to pick up Adam Strange: Planet Heist, Mystery in Space, Omega Men, and Countdown to Adventure.

I got Planet Heist and Mystery in Space. Didn't read Omega Men, Countdown to Adventure, or Holy War. It seems like most of the material is coming from those three things.
