THUNDER Agents

Picked up the first issue, pretty solid. I'll probably pick up the second this week, might even put an order in for the DC Presents collection, seems pretty interesting

I liked the second issue too, though it left me hanging in finding out if Henry was really guilty or if the had been set up. I did like how the super speed affected him.
I'm guessing setup. The THUNDER Agency, or whatever it's called, is a government agency that contracts people to act as superheroes using powers that will ultimately kill them, after all. You've gotta figure people who'd do that are gonna be pretty willing to cut a few corners in getting their superhero-wannabes to volunteer.

Thinking of buying the first two issues of this comic book this week

two issues into it,.. And I'm hating who they work for.

Good lord, Cafu, where did you come from and how had I never heard of you before this? Just gorgeous...

Fiona Staples walks us through her T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents #7 cover!

My public wish that Fiona Staples gets a crack at each of our book’s covers is slowly coming true: May’s T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents #7 will feature the outstanding cover above.
We asked Fiona for a bit of background on her cover, and she supplied a few process pieces and an explanation on how she came to the finished product you’re seeing now:

“We went with a combination of thumbnails #1 and #3- Dynamo held captive in the background, and a close-up shot of Iron Maiden holding his belt. I think the situation characterizes their relationship pretty well.”

“Later in the painting process, I changed her expression a bit to make it clear that she’s enjoying herself! And rather than having the stark dungeon background that I originally conceived, I filled it with retro sci-fi gizmos.”
T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS #7 hits comic shops in May.

Interesting bit of news from ECCC

http://blog.newsarama.com/2011/03/06/nick-spencer-latest-marvel-exclusive/

Here’s some news from this weekend’s Emerald City Comic Con, announced today at the show’s “Marvel: Next Big Thing” panel and confirmed by the subject on Twitter: Nick Spencer, current writer of Iron Man 2.0 and soon-to-be writer of Secret Avengers, is the latest creator to sign an exclusive deal with Marvel Comics.
The news shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise: he’s got two (that we know of!) monthly books at the publisher, and his DC work seems to have slowed down — he only ended up co-writing one issue of Supergirl after being originally announced as the new series writer, and his Jimmy Olsen storyline that started as an Action Comics back-up in the pre-”holding the line at $2.99″ era wraps up in a one-shot this month.
As these things tend to go, it’s not affecting his creator-owned work (like Morning Glories and The Infinite Vacation at Image) or things he has already ongoing, namely DC Comics series T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents. (That’s right, I made it through a whole blog post about Nick Spencer’s rapid success in the comic book industry without using the term “meteoric rise.” Well, until just now. But still, feeling good about it.)

Says it doesn't affect things already in process, but I can't help but wonder if Marvel won't want him to wrap up what he was doing with T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents regardless. I don't know how this stuff works but assume when you lock a guy exclusive you want to disconnect him from the other side as quick as you can

Hope this will not cause him to stop writing T.H.U.N.D.E.R Agents

I don't think THUNDER Agents is long for this world.

Bleh. I hope the next writer is good, but Spencer seemed to be striking a great balance between spy stuff, politics, and superheroics that few writers seem to be capable of.

I doubt anyone besides Spencer will write the title. He'll finish this arc and a second and then by #12 the title will be cancelled.
