Yeah, Taskmaster getting nuked right away was super awkward. Is there a real world reason for that or? Why was she even there?
Anyway, don't feel like writing a spoiler free review, word vomit is more my style.
Speaking of that scene, though. While I do appreciate the slow start, introducing the characters, which seems like a good starting point for people who can't be bothered to watch 2390.6 movies to catch up, whenever this comes out on blu, unless I feel patient that day, I'd probably start with Bucky flipping cars. (The limo getting flipped felt like the Joker's truck flipping in TDK, I loved it. And Buck being badass for once? Yes, please.)
Maybe when Bob gets shot.
I don't know that I have a favorite character in this. I think they did a good job making the whole team feel like actual people (personally I didn't get that from most mcu movies I watched). I like the entire team, which is a first. Ghost maybe got the short end a bit?
Yelena is the star, along with Bob. He's a fantastic not-villain. Sad little droopy man. I wanted to give him a hug the whole damn time. Walker was the stand out of TFATWS, and I still like him here. His broken family felt like a natural progression, unfortunately. Quippy, jokey characters get on my nerves quick, but Red Guardian didn't annoy me at all. His scenes with Yelena got me, there was a single tear at the end there, yep. Bucky improved, he's not interesting when he's de-fanged. (The whole congressman nonsense is so out of left field, I'm gonna pretend that never happened.) Bucky's terrible hair also (slightly) improved in the post credits scene. Not sure why this is important, but it is. ...I wouldn't mind more Red Guardian and Winter Soldier scenes, there's something weirdly funny when they're together. Maybe it's because Bucky is kind of standoffish and Red Guardian adopts everyone on sight.
Every team-member got a laugh out of me at least once. This deserves its own paragraph.
The void actually felt creepy. That shadow-smear people left behind, wow. Did not expect that sense of dread; again, a first in a mcu movie for me. TWS, both the movie and the character come close, but since he's only a (enhanced) man, it's nowhere near as bad as this. Unless you're his target or standing too close to it, you could actually get away. Not here. (The little pinprick eyes are
so cool.)
The team following Yelena into the void is easily my favorite part, including the 'group hug'.
I just want more of this team... without them having to share screentime with other heroes I don't care about, preferably. Give me a sequel, I don't care what they call themselves. I do think 'Thunderbolts' would make them stand out more. I don't want an Avengers movie, I want these guys. They're awesome.
(I didn't go alone, and had to sit through the credits after all. Why. Why is this a thing. Hate it.)
