SUPERMAN #658
Writer-Kurt Busiek
Art & Cover-Carlos Pacheco and Jesus Merino
Letterer-I Comicraft
Editor-Matt Idelson
PLOT:
Arion continues on what will happen to the future under Khyber's reign to Superman, Jimmy, Lois & Perry. When all is said and done, Arion tells Superman what to do to avoid humanity's destrucation. And its not pleasing.
REVIEW:
This issue of this storyline of "Camelot Falls" was delayed. And it got me time to think over this title's arc. I've been harsh on the writing because nothing was moving forward. It was sorta like we moved instead of one step or two, maybe three, we ended up just staying in the same postion as before or just going a half a step forward with not much ground to cover on story. That's what I felt. Since there were people who didn't share my opinion, I decided to ease up with this new issue.
When we last left this arc, we were given a glimpse of what horrible future will the earth get into because of Superman. I didn't like that issue because it felt like we were only getting half of the future and the main reason for this arc instead of getting the whole shoot in the barrel. Thanfully we got the rest of it with #658.
Arion tells the four on the Daily Planet that Superman does return after being isolated inside the Earth's core. And all this happens during the final war between earth and Khyber's forces. In this possible future, Lois tries to hide it but sees Clark within Parasite. Mostly due to him stealing energy from Superman as he did time to time. When Parasite dies, Lois cries and calls him "Clark". Khyber does indeed die but from Luthor's forces. Superman dies beforehand because of him. After that, its civil war and the world going into ice age with Jimmy Olsen beign the last man to die after writing what the late Lois Lane did in her dairy of what the world faced. That is the terrible future.
For Superman, he knows that he can stop Khyber once he arrives. But Arion tells him that it will still cause harm to those on the planet. But what Arion wants Superman to do, which its obivious it won't happen, is to stop fighting. To let civilization fall. Now I'm aware that there are stories where a main character sees his future over a certain action he takes, and he still does it but in the end it does good then before where it was bad. I feel this whole storyline will be that.
Overall, this issue was good enough to get an acceptable rating. From what we saw in this issue, and from the solicits of the upcoming issues, I'm glad Khyber won't quickly appear. Instead we'll be seeign Superman wondering and fearing certain actiosn that may or may not lead to the horrible future we and he has seen.
RATING: 7/10
What's next: Krypto, an adventure with our favorite Dog of Steel.
