Comics Superman a Fact or Fiction????

Is it true that in one of the comics Superman states that he can only go 99% lightspeed? If so can anyone POST the scan of it?

I dont think he can even go that fast, at least not on earth, as The Flash has always been shown as being slightly faster than him

Man of Steel #110: Standing in one spot, Superman used his super speed to vibrate his body invisible.

Superman #175: Taking another speed trick from the Flash?s book of tricks, Superman used his super speed to vibrate his body intangible, thus allowing Doomsday?s punches and fire-breath to pass harmlessly through him. A body moving at light speed within an atmosphere will become intangible (that?s how the Flash does it).

Return of Superman: Superman used his speed to vibrate his arm so fast, it shattered the Cyborg?s body into hundreds of fragments.

After racing the Man of Steel, Impulse stated that Superman travels at 99% of the speed of light.

War of the Gods #4: Superman actually out-raced an energy beam to its target. In JLA: Heavens Ladder, it is stated that Superman can race a photon to its target.

Lex 2000 special: Superman made the trip from Earth to Saturn in well under 4 minutes. By comparison, light takes about 19 minutes to make this trip.

In JLA # 51, Superman apparently made the trip from Saturn to Earth in a matter of seconds.

Now that I'm thinking about it, wasn't going FTL what killed Barry Allen? So keeping that in-continuity, Superman shouldn't be able to do any of that stuff without being drawn into the Speed Force himself. Either that, or the speed of light in the DCU is way faster than the speed of light in real life.

I dont think he would be taken into the Speed Force as he has no link to it though, he can simply do all that stuff without it because of his kryptonian yellow-sun driven physiology

Even with the power of our yellow sun behind him, Superman shouldn't be able to travel at light speed. Whenever a writers shows him going FTL, it's almost as ******ed as showing Superman speak in outer space where there's no air for sound to pass through.

It takes infinite amounts of energy to go as fast as light, because an object's mass would become unlimited as well.

The Flash has an excuse to be able to go that fast: the Speed Force = Infinite energy. The Speed Force was created to allow writers to bypass those laws of physics pertaining to FTL travel.

Superman does not have such an excuse: The Sun = Not infinite energy.

Plus, if Superman can move that fast, then The Flash is basically reduntant as Superman not only has the same (or in some cases, greater) speed levels, but also super strength, flight, heat vision, and so on.
