Superman as a Christ figure?

If there is any Christ, Moses or other religious allegory to be made let the audience come to that themselves if they wish rather than beating the audience over the head with it in this sort of Passion of the Kal-El style that SR did.

Exactly, thank you. A heroes journey does not mean Christ has to be involved in any obvious way. There are plenty of hero journey stories where there are no Christian elements. Harry Potter, the original Star Wars and the latest Star Trek film just off the top of my head.

There are elements in literature of some of Superman's characteristics as being related to a Christ figure, but not with scenes where he flies into the sky with Jor-El monologuing dialogue ripped off from the Bible.

But u have to agree that ppl would probably see him as Christ.

Just imagine: A man with who can fly, see throught walls, save ppl... how the public would see Superman?

It is even very possible that some group of ppl would create a church to adore Superman as humans savior. Its human nature.

I only noticed the "crucifixion pose" until someone pointed it out to me on the internet. The only Christ reference I definitely noticed was when Jor-El said his "..I send them you, my only son" speech, which I love BTW. I don't think most people in the audience were bothered by those references, which were done in good taste, imo, and which enrich and elevate the character's status as the Jesuschrist of the superheroes. What a lot of people wanted was more action as in superfights.

Also, Superman in SR was also compared to other mythological characters such as Atlas and Prometheus, and maybe more, so it wasn't just pure Christ references.

Oddly enough, same happened to me with Spiderman:

He was crucified by circumstances in order to save the people.

He saved the people with his sacrifice.

He "died" afterwards.

He even had the mythic wound on his side.

He was taken down from the cross.

And naturally he resurrected afterwards.

And who could forget crucifixion-pose Batman:

I've never saw the comparisons in Spider-man to a crucifixion, probably because that was not rami's intent imo.
In SR. it was implied and in your face. No way could someone watch him fall back to earth and not see a crucifixion pose.

Well, we never saw Spidey's heartbeats during that sequnce so we can't really say. Metaphorically it still work though.

Same for crucifixion Spìdey. A crucifixion pose is a crucifixion pose. It's up to you to make it evident or just ignore.
