Which one do you prefer? And why?

Personally I like both films, think both obviously have their faults but I also think both have some really good redeeming factors but for me Superman III is a better film though. Plus Clark Kent vs Superman is one of the greatest scenes ever. I always felt the most redeeming part of the Supergirl movie was the Phantom Zone scene.

Helen Slater's the redeeming feature.

I probably should have been more clear what I meant, I did mean redeeming moment of the film. Also don't get me wrong I loved Helen Slater but there were monents where I feel she's doing her best female Christopher Reeve impression. Fortunately there are great monents like when Ethan asks if ste can bend steel bars in her bare hands and she drops her voice saying "yes" in a playful way. It's a shame she didn't get a better script. Also a shame Chris Reeve pulled out of the film I think a few brief scenes with him would have really helped.

But as I said I do think Superman III was better, I think it was Chris Reeve's strongest performance as Superman/Clark Kent. That along with the scenes where he saves the people at the Chemical Plant and the Clark vs Superman scene put it above Supergirl for me where Ai don't think there were enough moments like those and the ones that were weren't as good.

Superman 3 because it has Chris Reeve in it who is better than everyone in Supergirl.

Superman III because it was filmed where I live. I remember watching as a kid going hey Superman is in my city!! What kid doesn't dream of seeing that!

Both are absolutely terrible.

I can barely sit through Superman II these days. III, IV, Returns, and Supergirl are like pulling teeth.

Both are pretty bad; but Supergirl is probably worse. Curiously, however, Supergirl’s flying effects and wirework outclass any of the Reeve movies - including STM.

Supergirl is a guilty pleasure for me. Faye Dunaway as the villain just makes the movie for me. Superman III is just painful to watch. If you never knew who Richard Pryor was you'd think he's the unfunniest comic ever based on that movie.

Two of the most memorable moments from the film was Bad Supes vs Good Supes and the scene at the end with the android lady. That was some creepy **** when I was a kid.

I absolutely hated Supergirl. Kept waiting on Clark Kent to show up and he never did. Both sucks but Supergirl sucks harder.

It's a shame Chris Reeve pulled out of been in Supergirl, he was supposed to be in the sequence where she arrives, plus how much better would it be of Clark Kent had actually recommended Kara to the boarding school instead of her just knowing her cousin was Clark Kent. He was also going to be involved in the final scene and Selina had used magic to turn him into an old man. I think just his appearance would have raised the film.

That's the only thing I think Supergirl has better than Superman 3, and that's the villain. Faye Dunaway's power mad Selina was way better than Pryor's Gus Gorman and his gormless villain buddies. The brother and sister combo and that brainless blond chick.

I'm somewhat ashamed I haven't seen Supergirl yet... I'll try to find the DVD from the libraries over here.

That's surprising, did you just never fancy watching it or something else?

Both are fun films. Supergirl shades it for me because of Slater, the amazing score and the scene with the Superman poster. Chills when I watch that.

Pretty much. I know it's not really good (on par with Superman III and/or IV) so I just never bothered to watch it.

-edit- What?! Peter O'Toole was in Supergirl? :funny:

Superman 3 is a little bit better than Supergirl.

But, I think Supergirl is better than disaster that is Superman 4.

Agreed.

Gorman wasn't really the villain, Ross Webster was.

He was a big part of the villain posse. More of a character than the other three caricatures were.

Agree, Superman III was rubbish, but good Superman vs evil Superman
is kind of an iconic scene - and of course Chris Reeve is the one thing that's
good (even in Superman IV he was good, which is why I prefer that film
to Superman Returns).

As far as Supergirl goes.....I've put the movie out of my head, and can't remember anything, except watching it and feeling ripped off.

Sure Helen Slater was cute and likeable, but O'Toole and Dunaway were
awful, and the special effects made Superman IV look like Avatar in comparison.

So Superman III all the way.

Actually you should go back and watch Supergirl just for the flying FX they were probably the best of the series.

You might have something there, the flying effects were better than
I remembered, like this....

...makes them look pretty impressive, I mean obviously wires but
still not bad at all - although this....

.... is not so impressive.

And, personally, it doesn't even come close to this....

.... in terms of sheer cool.
