You might have something there, the flying effects were better than
I remembered, like this....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r56yFhT_lxY

...makes them look pretty impressive, I mean obviously wires but
still not bad at all - although this....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wugo0rJkpIQ

.... is not so impressive.

And, personally, it doesn't even come close to this....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCLi3_-iXHk

.... in terms of sheer cool.

Agreed that finale sequence in Supergirl was awful all around. Tell you a scene I do like though, the one where she fights that invisible monster. There's done cool practical stuff and sone me cool lightning FX.

How has Supergirl got 8 votes. It must be because she was hot to look at.

That is really hard to imagine. The movie has almost nothing going for it. Maybe that she's getting a new TV series might also have something to do with it.

That's just your opinion, there are a lot of fans of both Superman III and Supergirl who have been for a very long time, myself included. You should really understand that your opinion on something is not the same as everyone else's.

Goes without saying opinions are never the same as everyone's. But not every opinion can be based on the same thing. Some people do like movies because of an attractive leading character, or other trivial things like that.

We're not talking about a well liked movie here. It's Supergirl. It's one of the bottom feeders. Finding good things to say about it, legitimately good positive attributes as a movie, is as easy as doing the same for Uwe Boll's movies.

Regardless people do like it myself included so you shouldn't respect that people it even if you don't. People can like movies for whatever they want there's no right or wrong there. I like it because I think Helen Slater did a stellar, is relatable and I actually think is well written. Add to that some good flying FX and some cool acenes (Supergirl vs the invisible monster, the Phantom Zone etc) and I think it's enjoyable, which at the end of the day is what a movie experience is all about.

I honestly find you to be a very pretentious poster on here and I think you need to learn to respect others opinions.

That's one thing the studios seem to have got mostly right so far,
the casting of Superman and Supergirl.

While I still maintain Brandon Routh was a boring Superman, I blame that
on Bryan Singer.

Reeve was just magic, Cavill has been solid and believable, Welling was good too (and that's just recent history).

Helen Slater was a great Supergirl, in a pretty crummy Supergirl film. She captured the key characteristics of Supergirl nicely.
Laura Vandervoort was a different interpretation of Supergirl, but did a great
job in Smallville.
Having said all that, the fact that Helen Slater was extremely cute did not
diminish her appeal as the teen of steel - and I suspect there are more than a few lads who have seen the film for that reason alone.

That Superman III is a marginally better film probably owes itself to the good Superman v Evil Superman fight scene - and a pretty reasonable performance from Annette O'Toole as Lana Lang. Otherwise it was pretty crappy as well - Vaughn a second rate Luthor, and Richard Pryor in completely the wrong film. The mega-computer was quite scary though,
the closest thing we've seen to Brainiac on film - a lot scarier than Faye Dunaway with a feather duster !

I shouldn't respect people? You want me to disrespect you now? I never said people can't like a movie for any reason they want. I said I find it hard to believe people could like it for reasons that would make it a legit good movie. See saying things like Helen Slater did a stellar job are not compliments you hear much about this movie. A stellar performance is not something that this movie gets kudos for much. It's not a reason you'd think people would have for liking it.

Sorry you find me pretentious, but I never slighted you or anyone for liking this movie. I just said I found it hard to think of any genuine good movie reasons why it would be liked because it has little going for it. This thread is not even about which movie do you love. It's asking which one do you prefer. It's two panned unpopular movies being pitted against each other and seeing which one people find less awful.

!

Agreed! I also thought most of the flying sequences were top notch. And Jerry Goldsmith's score is also outstanding, imo. Better than most of the superhero scores we get these days.

It's obviously a typo! Actually the one consistent compliment you will hear about this film is Helen Slater's performance.

I'm sorry that's just the way you come across to me the things you post regarding movies. Almost like you're above certain things.

I understand that it's two critically panned movies but my point still stands that people do genuinely like these movies and that while it's fine to question why they do, it's not fine to basically say people shouldn't like these movies. I really don't think they're the pile of **** they're made out to be.

I forgot to mention his much I loved the score

That is like asking me if I prefer Ebola or tickets to see Gigli: The Musical (which fortunately does not exist).

I guess Supergirl was better.

I loved the Smallville scenes, so going with Superman III but this was pretty close.

Trying... WAY TOO HARD. Lay off the coffee. Or sodas, or whatever.

You are entitled to your opinion... but saying that Supergirl is at the bottom is a bit too much.

I mean, there are number of comic book movies that I find worse than Supergirl.

For example - I now find Superman IV ( and Batman and Robin) unwatchable, then there are movies like Catwoman (which I tried to watch two times but couldn't watch it after 10 minutes), Elektra, Ghost Rider 2 and Steel.

The only praise I ever see for her performance is saying she is the least terrible thing about it. It's not a big compliment to her performance.

Sorry if that's how you view my posts. I'm not going to stop being confident about what I think because you misread it as something else.

I never said anybody shouldn't like these movies. I said it's hard to imagine them being like for reasons that would make good movie qualities.

Will you stop following me around. It gives me the creeps. You act like you're the one on caffeine.

Supergirl is always making worst comic book movie lists. This can't be like some new surprising revelation that is a bit too much. It's the consensus.

You think those movies are worse because you think they're worse. I think Supergirl is as bad or worse than some of them. I know it's rated lower with critics and fans over seveal of them. Hey presto. You have your opinion, and they and I have mine.

Not true she's often praised for been good in the role, not as the only good thing about the film there's a difference.

Supergirl for me. While it had its major flaws, it still owns a special place in my heart. I haven't see it since I was a kid and I still remember the theme music!

The concept and idea of Superman III is better than how it was executed. The ideas are strong, the handling from Lester is poor. Donner was so badly done too, by this stage the energy had been sucked out of the franchise but bless CR for wanting to remain true to his and the characters ideals.

Supergirl was and is a film of its era, it will be interesting to see how the tv series manages it all, Slater is solid, good or decent FX for the time, but too 'campy' in it's delivery, the origin story is well handled and her early days but everytime she is off screen and Peter Cook is on it with Faye Dunaway, it loses rythem, focus and depth.
