I want to start reading Superman but I don't know which series to read. Aren't there more than 1?

How far back should I go?

I heard something about him finally meeting the real brainiac which sounds interesting.

I would got back to the begining and read the stuff from the 30s and 40s when he actually had testies, and he wasn't overpowered like he is now.

That was the most recent story in Action Comics that just ended.

I'd go with Geoff Johns' run on Action Comics for some really good Superman. Grant Morrison and Frank Quietlys' All-Star Superman. Jeph Loeb and Tim Sales' Superman For All Seasons.

Also, don't forget Action Comics 775 and Kingdom Come.

I really enjoyed the Emperor Joker arc which you can find in trade at a lot of B&Ns. Not exactly what you would call a "classic Superman story" or anything like that but a totally fun read.
