I've noticed that STAS tends to be the sort of under-rated gem of the DCAU. Batman gets the accolades because the writing and darkness of the episodes and how it was sort of revolutionary at that time and Justice League and JLU get alot of credit for including so many of the DC universes characters, while STAS tends to just kind of fall into the middle between those series'. I love it just as much as BTAS, JL and JLU. I mean...

It has a great theme song

The character designs were awesome. Brainiac was kickass, Luthor was pretty much the perfect Luthor. As was Supes and Lois.

And the cast? Clancy Brown is, for my money, the best Lex Luthor of all time (aside from Michael Rosenbaum). And then theres Dana Delaney who perfectly personified Lois Lane. Malcolm McDowell, Tim Daly, Michael Ironside, Brad Garett, the list just goes on and on.

Then, of course, we got such great episodes as The Last Son of Krypton (all three parts), Stolen Memories, Blasts from the Past, Mxyzpixilated, Brave New Metropolis, World's Finest, Little Girl Lost and Legacy, just to name a few.

Anyway, I think STAS is really underrated. Anyway, discuss.

Loved this show. Own all 3 volumes on DVD. It really was a great show.

Superman: TAS was nothing short of fantastic. And I wholeheartedly agree that the show simply had the perfect Lex Luthor as well. Definately still my absolute favourite Lex in any medium outside of the comics.

Superman was top notch. As was Lois. And the entire show as well. Such a great, and fun series to watch.

This show is the reason I like Supes so much.

Same here. I mean, I liked Richard Donner's Superman as a kid, but definitely not as much as Batman. But Superman: TAS kicked ass!

That's why I say, even though they should not copy the series for a movie, they definitely should find their own way to make Superman "cool" again for the big screen.

the fact that you didnt mention Batman Beyond makes it appear more unappreciated than Superman....but you are right that there isnt enough love shown for this series either....

I didnt really know what to say about Beyond. I mean, what is it known for? I only have seen a few episodes...

This was a good show overall (even though Superman's eyes being little black dots when compared to the eyes of virtually everyone else annoyed me a little bit, and I'm not the biggest fan of DCAU animation to begin with) and it does unfairly suffer from middle child syndrome.

it's Marvelized Average-Man at work.

Nothing compared to Ruby Spears Superma and the Fleischer cartoons. This show is another reason for Superman's wrong portrayal.

gotta say i prefer supes in jlu although it had a better supes than in the first series of JL which was very bad...

The Max Fleischer Superman was nearly overpowered by thugs with gas bombs and circus animals.

Yeah. Also, Fleischer's Superman was great animation, but story-wise it was really nothing to write home about.

To be honest, STAS has too much boring episodes. And Superman struggles with a punk rock girl that got struck by lightning? You are kidding me.

Well, that's because the show came out when Superman couldn't even fly.

Overall he had more dignity in this show than he STAS.

Define 'dignity'?

There's nothing worse than an over-powered, indestructible Man-God Superman who can just kick the moon out of orbit.

And people wonder why the characters popularity wanes sometimes!

He was portrayed as strong and confident. STAS Superman seems to struggle with the world too much. It's just the feeling the show gives me. Not exactly a masterpiece.

Well, you just have to raise the challenge bar. It's all a matter of the environment. Superman is supposed to be the best in the world he lives so if he is surrounded by powerful hero beings he has to be more powerful. If his world is more grounded it's okay to make him just a lil bit stronger than a locomotive. Afterall, in the Silver Age Superman constantly OUTSMARTED his enemies even if he was almost a god.
And people wonder why the characters popularity wanes sometimes!

Superman is the best character ever created. It's just that in these cynical times people cannot believe that there are people who are better than themselves.

I just didn't like how he always got hurt way way too easily... He didn't kick enough ass and the same problem arises in JLU

Although however, teh sories were fantastic and teh series was remarkable overall compared to the drivel we have received in recent films or other animated films

I like STAS and the Max Fleisher Version, the version I didn't like was the Hannah-Barabara version. : P

I like all of the DCAU, including Superman TAS. Definitely a great cartoon with some great story lines.
