So, I'm considering getting Geek Squad service from Best Buy for my computer, but at $200 for 1 year & service for 3 computers, it still is a bit steep. Are they reputable & do they offer great service??

I have had a pretty good experience with them. They will try simple troubleshooting steps over the phone, and if that doesn't work, then they will ask for permission to remote into your computer. If you allow them to, they will take control and fix whatever needs to be fixed. In short, yes they are very good to deal with if you don't have a lot of computer experience. I work I/T support as well. It's a fun job. You could always put $20 into my paypal account and I can do the same thing that they would do for you!. :woot:

I'm j/k with you. Anyways, I think it would be money well spent. Even if you never wind up using their services, it's always nice just to have that piece of mind to know that you have the option available.

I used to work in a call centre for Geek Squad, and did the over-the-phone work that Warrior mentioned. I never received many complaints about the quality of the service, other than more often than not, the field agent would just use very rudimentary steps to resolve computer issues (like reformatting a computer for almost any error, without trying other solutions, or simply installing a free antivirus to remove a virus, and charging $249 for the work).

That's basically the main thing I took away from working for them: they are way overpriced for the methods they use. You're always more likely to find someone you know who can offer the same services Geek Squad does, for a fraction of the cost (or nothing, if they're your friends). Geek Squad will likely get the job done for whatever issue you face, but for simpler issues it's best to look elsewhere.
