Microsoft Ending Support for Windows 98 and ME

Hey Jplaya why not keep running Window 3.14? Or better yet, MS-DOS

A EMU where you can run old arcade classics like SF2, TMNT, Final Fight, Punisher etc....

I have a really good playstation emulator on my computer. There doesn't seem to be too many playstation games it can't play, though you have to put up with small problems like lag or lack of sound from time to time.

wack PSX comp emu's are a waste of your time. You really need to get up on this MAME tip, it will having you playing sheeit from the early 90's bringing back that 'stalgia'

I don't care much for arcade games myself. I tend to like RPG's.

I've been trying to find Lufia II for the SNES for the longest time and it's just simply been impossible to find.

New Development like what?? Another unstable OS that will blow up and u gotta download 40000000 patches to fix????? It doesnt take long to patch 98 on a month to month basis, their just being lazy.

JPlaya...I dont think you trully understand the impact it takes for them to maintain support of an OS like like 98 which at this point is 8 years old...ME which is like 7 years old.

I think you are being a little melodramtic on this issue.

It's his baby, so it's understandable why he'd get so emotional about his having to replace his computer after upwards of 10 years of using it, not to mention that he might have to get a new emulator to boot.

Thank GOD!!! I hope this will prompt people to buy a new frigging computer. I hate PCs that take 30minutes to reboot. It's about time I am so sick of troubleshooting people with Windows 98 PCs. Now if only company would stop supporting them.

Try using the DOSbox emulator then run an emulator in that.

Windows ME is a joke easily the worse OS ever. Windows 98 changes computers and how we interacted with them forever. It is a classic. I am sad, ashamed, hurt, and dissapointed at microsoft's decision to scrap their best OS to date for 2 other OS that have the problems and issues with patchees in 2000 and XP. Today is a sad day for us hardcore computer heads who relied, loved, and cared about windows 98 SE like our own child. Today is a day for mourning and disgust. :down

Actually Windows 95 changed how we interacted with computers. 98 was just a better version of it.

Most "hardcore computer heads" I know use Linux, btw.

I love Windows.

I've never had a problem with it, but I always buy the version after it's been out for two years.

95 was just the tip of the ice berg. 98 pushed it over the top

Windows 95 was a direct Bizarro copy of the Mac interface. Heh!

It's definitely better. I just meant the interface breakthroughs were in 95. I like 98 the best, but It's not worth the trouble for me. I just use XP.

Perhaps, but it did something that the Mac OS couldn't do.

Sell.

I'm building my computer and will be using XP. I'm not going to get Vista for at least a couple of years so I can be sure of a minimal of problems.

Vista is damn near unusable at this point, from what I hear. It'll work, but it requires a good bit of fiddling around with settings and what not. Haven't tried it yet.

After the debacle that was Windows 3.1 and 3.1.1, PC victims were dying for any OS that was even halfway user-friendly, so it's no wonder they bought up Windows 95 by the truckloads.

I have friends at work who have it loaded up on test machines. It truly sucks eggs at this point. MS has a looong way to go before it's ready for release (thus the rumors that they're going to delay yet again and cut even MORE things out of it's feature-set). By the time they're done, Vista will be pretty much an XP service pack in a pretty box.
