In other news, we’re collaborating with Telltale Games to create Minecraft: Story Mode! Here are some bullet points to celebrate!

+ Minecraft: Story mode will be a narrative-driven video game created by Telltale Games. It will be about Minecraft.
+ Mojang is collaborating with Telltale and members of the community to make Minecraft: Story Mode as Minecrafty as possible.
+ The first episode will be released some time in 2015, and will be available on Xbox consoles, PlayStation consoles, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android-based devices.
+ Minecraft: Story Mode will be released episodically, just like The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead, or the recent Tales from the Borderlands, which is another developer-collaboration series between Telltale Games and Gearbox Software.
+ We’re not intending on creating an “official” story for Steve, or explaining the world of Minecraft in detail. It will be a cool game.
+ The Minecraft 2 thing was a joke. No really. It was a joke.

As 2014 comes to a close, we are delighted to confirm our partnership with Mojang to create a new episodic game series based on one of the most popular video games in history - Minecraft.

Minecraft: Story Mode will be an all-new narrative-driven game series developed by Telltale in collaboration with Mojang. Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice. It will not be an add-on for Minecraft, but rather a separate stand-alone product that will premiere in 2015 on consoles, computers and mobile devices.

Telltale's game series will mix new characters with familiar themes, in an entirely original Minecraft experience, inspired by the Minecraft community and the game that continues to inspire a generation.

Shocked this isn't Xbox only.

If I were guess, the contracts were probably signed for this before the deal with Microsoft buying the company, the same reason that the PS4 and Vita version of the game still came out despite the purchase being before the official release. I wouldn't even be all that surprised if this deal with Telltale hasn't been around even longer than those ports, and they're just now getting around to it considering how much they are developing at one time now.

Story mode? Press X to build a house. Press Y to mine for 72 hours to find three diamonds, 8000 pieces of cobblestone and some gold. Press B to build a nicer house out of better materials.

Cause reasons.

Most of the other TT games I understand. Fables is really well done and a long running comic, WD had great potential for a spin off from the comics/show and it succeeded beautifully, even the game of thrones one makes sense since it's a massive story and has tons of things you could do that could not have anything to do in the main story but still be awesome. Minecraft? You dig, build and try not to die. I can see a survival horror thing but story wise it's pretty weak.

Day 1: I woke up here and WTF? Green explody things almost killed me, there's giant spiders, zombies and skeletons running around. I'm freaking the **** out.

Day 2: Built a house out of dirt. Somehow.

Day 3: Smashed down some trees by punching them. Then built a crafting table out of some chunks of wood. Somehow.

Day 6: Figured out how to make TNT. The house is now gone.

Day 48: I opened a portal to Hell. I have never been so terrified. I can't even destroy it since all my diamonds are gone. I covered it with rocks and hope to **** nothing comes out.

Day 49: Said **** it and explored hell. Neat place. Made a lamp from some rocks there.

Day ???: I built a palace, a water park, fields of wheat as far as the eye can see, enslaved thousands of villagers to build a thousand foot statue of me and have the rest of them harvesting explosives from creepers. Hell has been conquered and destroyed. I am GOD!

Never really played it but according to a friend of mine the little story it has make sense.

I loved the Borderlands one and I was expecting to like it the least.
