I hate to be that guy, but I think the idea of aging Terminators is completely stupid and obviously just a convenient way to shoehorn Arnold into the movie. I didn't have faith in Taylor or this film before this news and now I have even less faith in it.

Nope.

I can't think of a more painful theatre experience. I was in pain from the cringe and the stupidity.

Some movies have put me to sleep, like ninja turtles 2007, ghost rider, and captain america, but that is a lesser crime.

Oh you poor thing, Did you need medical assistance for that pain?

If you are that guy, then I am that girl because I agree with you, I think it's an awful idea as well and is just an excuse to put Arnold in the film.

I'm leery of the whole project as well. I mean I'm not definitively claiming that the film is going to blow because I haven't seen it yet but I haven't liked or cared for most of what I have seen out of this project so far.

They should just have Arnold In film as he is now and forget this aging flesh idea. And if you have arnold recreating scenes from first 2 films just have arnold as he Is now.

I wish I could understand how you can find a movie like Thor 2 to be the most literally cringe-inducing experience in visits to a theater. Have you only seen like a half dozen or so movies in the theater before?

That you can't find a movie worse than Thor 2 speaks volumes of your taste in movies.

I'm not even trying to defend the movie, opinions vary on it being good or bad, but to call it the worst movie you've ever seen in a theater...? That I can't believe as anything but an overstated opinion.

Anyhow this isn't about Thor 2 but how the hell they're going to get Arnold to look like he did 30 years ago without makeup or CGI.

It would be a stupid idea IF they didn't already set up the aging flesh thing in the first movie. Heck, his flesh aged and rotted REALLY fast in that movie.

But he only rotted because of excessive damage to the organic components, did he not?

EDIT
The ageing idea of the organic components is an interesting concept and one that makes sense. Even if it is really only a plot device to enable today's Arnold to be a Terminator still... :cwink:
But at least it is still a well thought out idea.

I am cautiously optimistic about this project.

Boyega is British, so it was only a matter of time before he plays an American.

I don't mind the aging Flesh, they explain that it can heal so why wouldn't these flesh exteriors age?

He is shooting a Jeese Owens biopic as well so I think he already broke his American accent duck.

I agree with you.

I never understood why besides people not being able to move on from seeing Arnold as the Terminator all the T-800 Terminators would look the same if they were made for infiltration because as soon as anyone spotted a cyborg looking like Arnold they would open fire.

On the T2 commentary, Cameron himself states that the Model 101s all look like Schwarzenegger, with other models looking like someone else but using the same endoskeleton which makes more sense. They could cast any actor as a Terminator and say its a different model if they choose to.

I think the only reason they might come up with why John would keep sending back in time the T800 model despite being out of date by T2 is because John has some sentimental value for that model.

They should just stop with the Terminator films all together, none of them are ever gonna match the tone of the first 2. Arnold is too old to reprise the role, and that b.s. excuse that their skin can age but the are still capable of performing at full potential is just garbage to keep Arnold in the film. The film makers couldn't expand anymore on James Cameron's vision because it was close ended, it was only meant to have one sequel, instead they started centering it more around Arnold since Cameron doesn't want to have anything more to do with it.

I definitely wouldn't want to see current Arnold recreating scenes from T1 and T2. They have to use CG for that as well as mess with his voice.

Glad to know I'm in good company. :yay:

Yeah, it's not that I want this movie to be bad, but the only think that has me... slightly excited for it is Emilia Clarke's casting. The rest of the cast and especially the director are questionable choices, IMO.

But the biggest sore thumb (ironically) in all of this is Arnold and introducing the concept of aging cyborgs just reeks of desperation to me. I guess because Terminator Salvation and Conan flopped and Predators was at best a modest hit, movie studios are now convinced that the only way to continue a franchise that once had Arnold in it is to put him BACK in the series. Hey, here's an idea... how about you actually make GOOD movies instead?

I could do without Arnold in a Terminator movie but I'm not sure general audiences can. To a lot of people, he is the franchise.

I see it as the studios setting these movies up to fail if they don't follow the guidelines they want so they can justify their demands in the future.

Make a movie with an intentionally poor foundation and move on from there. Thinking that a Terminator movie without Arnold will flop means making a movie without him in it but one that's badly executed insuring that it won't succeed. Salvation could have been great. Instead they let it intentionally flop with all the dumb mistakes like rewriting what sounded like a solid script into the one we got, changing the cast around and getting McG to direct.

Jason Clarke is Connor. i understand that by hollywood standards he looks like a villain but i think he will be the best part of the movie. :yay:

Clarke hasn't played a real villain yet, though he tends to be either tough guys or big dumb logs.

Yikes, I don't know about it being a solid script.
One of the previous ones I remember was pretty good. Then they had Christian Bale come on board, had Sam Worthington and rewrote large portions of it to the one we had. Even with the old script the movie might have turned out bad but it probably would have been better recieved than the one we got.

All this 'aging Terminator' talk is giving me flashbacks to T3, while the casting reads like they're remaking T2. And they want another trilogy out of this?

The first two movies are classics that spurred my interest in film, but come on already. Hollywood's ideas for this franchise are running dry.

I'm kind of 50/50 on that one. I like Clarke but even though Christian Bale kinda sucked as Connor (not his fault; his character was written horribly) a lesser actor following him just feels like a downgrade to me. That probably doesn't make much sense, lol. I guess I just feel like Connor is a bit of a lost cause at this point. It's like no matter who plays the character, they'll find a way to screw him up.

See I have to get back to you on Clarke as Connor because I've only been exposed to very little of her acting and I want to give her more of a chance by finally watching more than a couple of episodes of GOT.

I totally agree with your "just make a good movie" sentiment. Arnold is box office poison now so the idea that he is going to make this new movie a huge hit is laughable. I hope this isn't another over 200mil project like Salvation for everyone involved sake.

I do think that Arnold was a huge reason for Terminator's success but I think if they carefully and smartly move on from him and get the audience use to not seeing him by making a good movie the series could be successful. And no I don't want a full reboot just a Terminator with a different skin will do.

I think why Clarke is in demand right now is that he has an interesting look. He has something that most other modern actors don't' have: He's rugged but has a hidden vulnerability. He's not classically handsome, but he's not ugly either. He's like a combination of a classic character actor from the 70's and an action star of the 80's and 90's.
