The 2016 "yep, I'm still here lurking, waiting for a good book" Bought/Thought

Guess we don't really Bought/Thought anymore? Oh well.

think it's cuz so few people actually buy the comics these days
I might try out Unworthy Thor, so maybe I'll post a review on that later
and the X-Line relaunch looks promising... Marvel's gotta turn it around or this thread will stay, sadly, quiet

I just haven't remembered to post here for a while. But my pull list is dominated by DC these days, anyway. There's several NOW titles that have me interested, though, not to mention the ResureXion relaunch, so hopefully things will turn up for the Marvel line.

I did read Unworthy Thor #1, and I really enjoyed it. Great to see the Odinson again and this quest looks to be pretty cool. Corp's fears are true as he sets out to claim Ultimate Mjolnir, but I just want to see Thor restored. And Beta Ray Bill shows up. Great start!

Justice League #10 (?) - was better than last issue. Some computer virus takes over Cyborg, The watchtower and the ENITRE BATCAVE simultaneously. Curious who has the power to do that! Good stuff!

Sam Wilson: Captain America #14 I was honestly getting ready to drop this, but I've been convinced to stick around a little while longer now. The teamup with Steve and Sam was great, as was the tragic resolution, and I'm really looking forward to what happens when Sam finds out the truth about Hydra-Cap. The main problem with the book, and really the series as a whole, is that Spencer struggles with nuance. Flagsmasher was so extreme that you never stop to think "he has a point, you know", which defeats the whole purpose of his character. 7/10

Astonishing Ant-Man #12 Well, this book is over and done. Thanks for nothing, Marvel. I guess it was a nice way to go out, but looking at the final few issues, it's clear that the cancellation really hurt what was once my favorite series from both lines. I'd love to hear Marvel try and explain whatever logic they mange to scrounge up to explain why there's no place for Scott in Marvel NOW. 6/10

Occupy Avengers #1 A very good start to one of the most interesting series in the NOW lineup. Hawkeye is still learning to deal with his actions in CW2, and that plays in big part in his narrative monologue, which is handled very well. We don't get much from Red Wolf, here, but he offers a promising companion to Clint. Also, the "Granny Fireheart" has me wondering if Puma might show up here. He'd certainly fit in with the tone. I'll be back for Issue 2. 8/10

Hal Jordan & the GLC #7 The explosive finale to the first arc was well worth the build-up and it will be fascinating to see how things progress from here. The next arc is supposed to be John-centric, so I'm pumped for that. I just wish Sandoval could draw ALL the issues, because I really very much prefer his work to Van Sciver. 9/10

Blue Beetle #2 Honestly, if this wasn't Keith Giffen writing Blue Beetle, I wouldn't still be here. As it is, it's just good enough to keep getting chances, but not good enough for me to confidently keep spending money on it. For some reason, it just doesn't click, Giffen's writing is usually more concise and directional than this, but so far the plot here has been pretty nebulous. And I maintain they made a huge mistake by not opting to have Ted's superhero past written as one of the many forgotten mysteries. There was SO much potential there to tie in to Rebirth, instead we just have vague references to a backstory we know nothing about. 5/10

I don't post much in here any more because I'm reading mostly DC these days and for the most part dislike the Marvel titles I do read. Civil War II is horrible. Ultimates was amazing until Civil War II hit and disrupted it like all events do. Uncanny Avengers is enjoyable. All the X-Men books are either bad or mediocre at best. I just think Marvel's lost it for me.

Though I will say that I gave Champions a shot and enjoy that. At least until the next event kills it or after 10 issues when it changes completely and is relaunched.

And that I think is my problem with Marvel. Nothing has legs no matter how good it is. It will always change and/or end and become something else. So if nothing is really going to have longevity then I just don't really have any interest in starting it at all.

That said, DC has been solid. The Valiant Universe is great. Walking Dead is good as always.

Oh... but I'm totally stoked about Generation X coming back. I'm trying not to get TOO stoked though because this IS Marvel Comics. They'll find some way to ruin it.

Spider-Woman 13 - Wow. This issue was fantastic and heartbreaking. Hobgoblin (Roderick Kingsley) is back and he makes the stakes personal for Jessica. Dennis Hopeless is calling this arc a "Pumpkin Bomb Bloodbath" and this issue went out with a bang. READ IT.

If you want some fantastic writing just start w/ Tom King's Vision Arc or Ta-Nehisi Coates' Black Panther run. Both of these are just fantastic in my opinion.

Am I the only one who missed New X-Men #14? I got my 13 and my 15... but no 14. :(

Ultimates2 #1 was definitely a good start for "Season 2" of the series after it got derailed by Civil War 2 in the later issues of the first run. The new status quo is intriguing, and the characters continue to be exciting, but Rocafort on art is sorely missed. I do prefer Foreman to Ward, who drew the final issue of Season 1. Oddly enough though, I vastly preferred Ward's new Anti-Man design to the 90's-ish garb Foreman swapped him into. All that said, after toying with dropping the original series several times during the Civil War 2 tie-ins, Ewing officially has sucked me right back in. 7/10

Uncanny Inhumans #15 - Wow. If you didn't think Reader was crazy powerful before, this issue cements that he definitely has one of the most unique and powerful power sets of the Inhumans (and possibly the MU.).

Occupy Avengers #2: Hawkeye's walkabout stays very strong in the sophomore issue. The fight wit Hydro-Man was great, but the highlight is the witty dialogue and even better narrative monologues. Walker really gets his two leads, and it's going to be great to see how they play off each other. Walker is one of the best writers Marvel has right now, if you ask me, and he's crafter, in my opinion, the best new series to launch out of NOW! so far. My only complaint is that with all of these Fireheart family members, there's no mention of Puma. 9/10

Ultimates 2 #2 As always, when Ewing plays around with the cosmic entities, this series soars, but the team itself once again gets the short end of the stick. It seems to me like Ewing is having trouble choosing what to focus on with his story. Foreman, however, has really filled Rocafort's place well, so my hope for this series remains high. 7/10

Star-Lord #1 This was a really fun first issue. Bendis' take on the Guardians has been met with a mediocre reaction, but if this series and the previews for Rocket's new ongoing are any indications, the heroes will be bouncing back just in time for their new movie. Zdarsky's humor meshes very well with Peter Quill, and he sets up what looks to be a very fun series. 8/10

Hawkeye #1 Clint Barton has his own great series over in "Occupy", and his protege Kate is off to a strong start with her own solo series. The PI angle is strong, and Thompson's writing gels well with Kate's bubbly personality. Not everything in this first issue worked completely, but I'll be back for more next month. 7/10

Marvel is making it tough for me to narrow down my pull list with all these new books!

Spider-Woman #14 - Hopeless pulls no punches and delivers gut punch after gut punch. Jess is not in a good place right now at all and it's heartbreaking. Is Roger dead? Is he alive? Who the hell is in the Porcupine suit? Carol appears, but I would say that this arc is taking place before Captain Marvel 0 since Jess is still mad at her here.

Hulk #1 - Speaking of heroes not in great places, Jen Walters is having a rough go of it as well. Here we see where she's at after the events of Civil War II and sets up the arc with a creepy client that needs her help. Really looking forward to where this goes.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #14 - The Thing guest stars and teaches Lunella to have some fun once awhile. I know a lot of people wonder hwy this comic is still in print but seriously, it's so great.

Holy crap, guys. If you haven't, go pick up Vision by King. My god that was by far the best book that I've read in years. It's only 12 issues and worth every dime. And this from a guy who doesn't really even care about Vision as a character.

I've been trade-waiting it cuz my local shop has been lacking on back issues
Have they announced a hardcover of the whole thing yet?
