Underrated Christmas movie (and under appreciated prequel that kind of established the format for all the prequels we got decades later, all the way down to the post-credits scene): Young Sherlock Holmes!

This film is easily one of my all time favorite Holmes movies and it ends on Christmas, so it counts. Masterfully directed by Barry Levinson and skillfully written by Chris Columbus, this awesome movie reimagines Holmes’s and Watson’s first meeting in an uptight boarding school as they attempt to unravel a mystery of why some of London’s elite appear to be committing suicide. We also learn where Holmes got his famous attire and pipe, why he became a lifelong bachelor, and how exposing the culprits behind these crimes portended many trials to come. Nicholas Rowe and Alan Cox might be my second favorite Holmes and Watson of all time (Cumberbatch and Freeman top my list), and the rest of the cast is great too, particularly Anthony Higgins and Sophie Ward. This is also one of the only films I’ve seen that I felt got a particular classic character right. Definitely check it out if you haven’t seen it.

Moved on to Home Alone 2, aka the reason why "Cool Jerk" by the Capitols absolutely counts as a Christmas song.

Pour one out for whoever runs the YouTube account for The Capitols because I'm sure that one too many "GET OUT OF HERE YOU NOSY LITTLE PERVERT OR I'M GONNA SLAP YOU SILLY!"s prompted them to turn off comments for that video entirely.

Damn shame, which is something that Uncle Frank clearly doesn't have for showering with the door open in a house full of people. Family or not that's still creepy, Frankie.

I love the "small town is unhealthily obsessed with a holiday" trope. It's so silly, yet so charming. This movie was very cute, and I'm looking forward to watching the sequel :hehe:

I fell asleep during this one. It was kinda boring.

Mini Candy Cane Review: Acker is doing her darndest, but her love interest did not grow as an actor between Center Stage and this. Properly fun dancing though.

Mini Candy Cane Review: Elf isn't a movie I love as much as I appreciate. It's super good, but not necessarily my speed. Except for Zooey. She'll always be my speed.

Had a compelling urge to watch How The Grinch Stole Christmas again. I don't understand how anyone can say this is a bad movie. It's at least ambitious in how much it commits to the Dr. Seuss look and Jim Carrey practically carries the whole damn thing on his back with that legendary performance. His version of "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" is like the incel version of "Defying Gravity" since he sings it after his crush got engaged and the town made fun of him. :o

One of my favorites. It's bad rep among some folk makes no sense to me.

So I've decided that for this season I'm going to finally check out all 5 of the Silent Night Deadly Night movies. (I might even check out the 2012 reboot)

I just bought all of them on bluray (and 4K).

My only knowledge of those movies is "Garbage Day!" from 2 so it'll be interesting where all these movies go by the time it gets to the 5th movie.

Embarrassed to admit I was actually really engaged with this movie. It's charming. Very much missing traditional Christmas flair, as I did forget it was a Christmas movie multiple times since it's hardly relevant, but I was into the romance. The leads were both charming and I'm a sucker for the "stuck up guy pretends to be something he's not and falls for the down to earth girl" thing. What can I say?

14. Holiday Engagement

Gotta say. The "fake dating" trope doesn't do it for me.

You have never watched them? You?

Honestly, most shocking thing I'm going to hear this holiday season.
