The Amazing Spider-Man The Amazing Nitpick Thread

Ever since I read the description, I thought it sounded awful. But Andrew really delivered it well. What sold the scene was his dramatic scared movements as he was cowering to the floor. Very amusing. It's an odd moment to cite, but you could really tell Andrew paid a lot of attention to the physical performance.

That's sounds really cool. It's obvious he cares A LOT about the role. Because, seriously, an action hero isn't apart of his MO, so we know he's out of his confort zone a little. This proves his "spidey fan" thing at comic-con wasn't damage control, but coming from his heart.

Hate to burst your bubble, but dancing to jazz music and saying things like "keep it open there, pops" and "thanks hot legs" is a lot less emo than wearing your hoodie in class and being all hunched over while writing or drawing, walking through the streets all angsty, and his clothes style is slightly what you would call more "emo" than an Italian suit or some popped collar. He may have had emo-ish hair in 3 but that was it. At least it wasn't extreme and colored funky or over half of his face.

I'm not saying new Peter is emo, but he does come off as a punk.

He looked emo in SM3...just didn't act like one.
Lol, yeah, he's a crazy dork

Extra large annoying =p

What's "true". That you're being just flat out negative. I seriously don't get. I'm saying it's hard to please Raimi fans. THAT is true.

There's a difference between being negative and realistic/honest.
I have stated positive things about the movie before. Not my fault if you haven't seen them. There just aren't many.

I know. But was the sarcastic "Oh no not the kife!" line any good delivery wise? Or did it sound bad?
It was hilarious. So was the pretending-to-sneeze-while-webbing. That had a huge change of being corny, but it doesn't come off as that at all.

Even humor and the way it's delivered can be up to one's preference, so I hope that I personally find it natural and funny. I didn't really find the car scene funny and the lines weren't delivered the way I was expecting, but it was nice seeing a quipping Spider-man regardless.

The way Garfield says the first line, "If you're gonna steal cars, don't dress like a car thief," was kinda weird but the second line I thought was fine. Also, I'm gonna get hate for comparing Raimi Spider-man to this one, but the way Tobey Maguire delivered the quipping lines made it seem scripted and a little campy.

Because he did it, mostly, in a booth outside of the suit. In this film, it seems Garfield is saying the lines while in the mask.

Yeah. They sounded really clear and it sounded like it was commentary almost rather than him saying it live. Again, probably because it WAS commentary more than it being said live.

Spider-Man 4 looks pretty good but I don't see why they had to recast Spidey....

I like the whole idea of Lizard turning those SWAT team members into lizards, but I don't get why he would want to change the whole city. What is the whole point of that?

Remember, in the trailer Connors says: "We were gonna change the lives of millions"

Maybe he got obsessed with that idea.

I thought that was a reference to helping people with missing limbs though. I don't see how turning people into Lizards is relevant to that.

A fair point. Especially if you have this line of thought under the influence of the Lizard.

As Connor changing the lives of millions might have meant regrowing their limbs or something like that. As Lizard it could mean helping them with their humanity, he may view humanity as a curse or a 'lost limb' so to speak. So he wants to 'cure' them.

His mind is warped after all.

And I'm probably alone in this next part but I think having Peter already be a kinda irresponsible Spiderman before Ben dies could actually be an improvement. Fully in the suit and all. I mean, he got these new powers and he's all excited and got carried away ONE time, it's natural. He acted irresponsibly and it cost Ben his life. I can't help but think we should see Peter being irresponsible for a longer time to really drive that point home.

I'll get a lot of flack for this but I'm thinking Uncle Ben should die in the third act, or more towards the end even.

Please don't kill me.

The first x-men movie was trying to do that on the statue of liberty. Infect everyone with the mutant gene.

A lot of people here are speculating that, so you're definitely not alone there. :woot:

We already know from set footage that, like in the Ultimate Spider-Man comics, Ben dies because Peter let a robber at the grocery store he was at get away.

I don't want to start anything but...I just think Raimi fans are too hard to please with this reboot. There no way of pleasing them. AT. ALL.

Nah...I'm a Raimi fan and the only things I absolutely despise so far are the suit, Lizard's face, and Lizard's scheme to lizardfy NYC. The rest are minor nitpicks. Two of those won't ruin the movie but the third may...we'll see. I am not getting overly excited for this to be let down. Too many people in here have already proclaimed Webb and Garfield as God's gift to mankind. I would rather be pessimistic and be surprised than be optimistic and be let down. I have done the latter too many times before but I learned. We'll see in July! It's not bad to be a Raimi fan and I would bet in 10 years people call others Webb fans if the next reboot isn't living up to your expectations. It will happen with the next Batman series, it happened with Routh as Superman, it happened with Brett Ratner on X-Men, etc.

I think more often then not this is a good attitude to have when coming into a film. The only film that's lived up to the hype for me was TDKR. And some of the films I ended up enjoying tremendously were ones I came into expecting nothing from, or having low expectations (V for Vendetta for example).

Also, the fickle nature of fandom on these boards is unfortunately the nature of the beast. I remember 7 years ago when I joined (man...I'm starting to feel old), and I voiced my disappointment with Spider-man 2. I was pretty much flamed to high heaven and back again. Then Spider-man 3 happens and suddenly there was a legion of people who hated the Raimi films that popped up overnight. Ironically, I didn't mind SM3 that much, because I came into it with extremely low expectations. And I don't even hate the Raimi films, they just never really captured what I wanted about Spider-man. I think they're great films, just not great Spider-man films.

But it's just the way it is. If TDKR is sub-par, (or heck, with how high the expectations are, even if it's only par) you can bet money there will suddenly be a legion of people who have hated the Nolan films forever.

I think you meant TDK there.

That's just the way that it is I suppose. Something that is loved immensely seems to have this hate backlash that comes when the hyped-love dies down a bit. I can remember the hate bus that stopped by TDK about 6 months after its release. There were all sorts of nitpicky complaints about that movie that seemed to come outta nowhere cause the film had this overwhelming wave of support and love.

Now we have TASM coming out and suddenly the Raimi haters are in full force, bashing on his films saying it's not the 'true' Spidey story. Even if Webb's films are exceptional, we'll still have the hate backlash at some point in the future. It's probably a good idea to have lowered expectations but unfortunately I am too excited about the movie at this point. I'm stuck. Hopefully it still blows me away.

No, Doc Brown is my uncle.:woot: Yeah, that was my bad. And it's true, backlash happens with every movie. Especially films that get immensely popular. I think TDK stuff was a combination of things. To begin with, comic fans can are incredibly good at rubbing it in your face when one of their favorite superheroes does really well. So you have the other group that wants to shoot them down because that gets really old. You also have the group of people that instantly dislike anything that gets super popular, and then there's the small population of people who actually just didn't like the movie.

And with Raimi's Spider-man, I think the reason so many "haters' apparently appeared overnight was a combination of what I stated above, and also because the people who really didn't like the films were kind of scared to speak up before. And then they realized they could come out of the woodwork. But I think by and large it was simply just the bandwagon effect. Comic fans are probably the most fickle group out there. So it's really not all that surprising.

And I don't think it's bad to have high expectations, as long as you don't set yourself up for failure. Like I said, TDK hit my expectations and exceeded them, which was pretty impressive given my state of hype at the time.

One minor nitpick I have is with Captain Stacy. I don't really care for him disliking Spidey. I'm sure he'll change his ways and become the Spidey supporter and father figure we all know and love but for now...I'm kinda seeing a less angry Jonah. We'll see how this plays out; I would have prefered it had Capt. Stacy been neutral about Spidey at first instead.
