Like what I mean in the Arkham games is if you fight a gang of thugs, you can just use attack and counter really. You don't have to use Batclaw and Batarang and other stuff but you can.

With the Titan guys, you had to use a batrang but that's it. In City you use Cape stun against those bastard. The 2 one armed brothers, you don't really have to use multiple attacks. Just dodge and punch really.

When bosses come in, then you use other gadgets really like you should but we're talking a gang of thugs.

I remember using the electrical gun on the dudes with armor (you don't have to, but it makes it easier), also cape stun on the dudes with armor, you had to vault over people with tasers, knife and sword wielding enemies were countered differently. There was variation in the combat, it wasn't just counter and punch, I'm sure it's gonna be the same situation here. You probably don't have to use the new moves, but can.

Electrocute the armored guy and he's pushed back, not get defeated
Same goes for the guys he's pushed against
Not really tactical when it's do as you're told to be honest

This post is awesome
I love Arkham City and Origins, but never ever got the impression of strategic combat in any of the series games
The games I actually found I can make tactics while fighting thugs are rare and far between, and they are considered to be brainless button mashers when it comes to combat

There's tactics involved in pushing an enemy back, getting overwhelmed you electrocute the armored guy, he flies back then you can deal with the others easier. Knife wielding guys, people that throw **** at you, big ass Titans, enemies with sword, enemies with tasers. There are tactics involved, saying otherwise is just plain false.

He needs to be fluid and the next company needs to come up with a whole new way of fighting and fluidity and plus Spidey needs to be fast and i'm not settling for what I know what Spidey can truly be and i also agree more acrobatic and fight like a spider

That is something I really enjoy about Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions. The spider-sense/dodging mechanic really took a step toward the correct direction for portraying Spider-Man's powers and agility.

You know when you web rush to a building in TASM 1 and you stick to it on your back and you sorta over look the city? I hope we can still do that. It was awesome!

I don't feel it tactical when it's the main thing, or you are taught to do it by the game tutorial

Still tactical to me, difference of opinion that's fine. Anyways, back to the game. I hope they release this whole video they showed snippets of, uncut, a lot of game companies do that nowadays so hopefully they will as well.

We've been promised a walkthrough trailer showing unedited gameplay since middle of Feb but it should come this week.

There are interior missions, maybe more than I anticipated

I don't like hero or menace system. Spidey's always a hero. Only Jonah thinks he's a menace.

That is not true at all. Public opinion of Spider-Man is always divided. Some people believe him to be a hero, others believe him to be a menace. Jameson is responsible in some part for the less than amiable perspective that the public has of Spider-Man, but he is far from the only one whom finds Spider-Man to be a dubious figure. During the "Big Time" era in the comics, the New York City Police colluded to frame Spider-Man for murder because they found Spider-Man to be a problem. Spider-Man the menace is a long standing part of Spidey canon. Even Aunt May loathed Spider-Man until she learned that Peter is Spider-Man (later retconned with BND).

Source? That seems likely, but did they say this?

They said after GDC which ends this week (today to be exact), then there is the weekend where they probably wont be working/releasing anything.

But hey, atleast we got to see the swinging mechanics in that 13 minute interview. That shows enough to justify a purchase IMO.

The system is awesome. Spider-Man is always a hero, it's just his public perception that changes when you fail a side mission or ignore/forget about crimes. People start to hate you and JJJ rants about you if you fail, but that doesn't change who Spider-Man is. It just means that the people wont appreciate you as much as when you succeed at everything.

Ok, thank you that does make sense.

I definitely agree with you, the Hero or Menace systems sounds cool, glad it's not just a "I'M EVIL SPIDER-MAN!!!"kind of morality. Glad it's more about his image to the citizens and incorporating JJJ into that is awesome! 'Bout time there was a Spider-man game where your actions are recognized by the Daily Bugle and citizens!

This is what Beenox said on their facebook when someone asked it the walkthrough video would be the same as they showed to the journalists.

Beenox: No, Jack, the developer walkthrough will feature differrent footage next week

Not to further derail this thread into more discussions about Batman Arkham even though it has its own forum, I will say that tactical thinking is critical after a certain point in the games. At first, you can get away with running around, mashing X (or Square for Playstation gamers).

Once you have progressed to a certain point however, you are forced into thinking about your plan of attack. Certain foes must be disarmed first. Other foes can only be assailed with specific attacks. In some instances, the environment is booby trapped and that hinders your ability to be stealthy. In other instances, Batman must remain unseen in order to not provoke the antagonist's into killing off hostages.

By the time you reach the half point of any Arkham game, you will have to plant explosives, duck through ventilation shafts, hide in the rafters and do silent takedowns. All of those things happen (often in the same battle) while having to deal with different types of foes. It can get intense. Wild swinging and gadget use will get Bats curb stomped faster than you can say Ted Kord and Maxwell Lord.

Graphics look fine.

But guys!

The stuff of nightmares has returned for this game!

The horrible dive and glide moves while swinging. Oh god... glide and dive, glide and dive, glide and dive, glide and dive, glide and dive, flip, glide and dive...:barf:

What things do you think the first game did better than we are told about this new game?
Not a full thought, just how it feels

One bit showed Spider-Man jumping straight forward leaving the webline

Guys!

We have an interview from GDC. AND IT SHOWS GAMEPLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7ZhLA9UT_c

Everything sounds good, I guess, but so did the interviews/inter-cut footage from ASM prior to its release.

Combat looks very similar but I like how you can counter multiple attackers at once. No more button mashing is a plus. Disarming enemies with webbing is awesome. I hate, hate the idea that there are 'human' characters that can move faster than Spider-man. So lame. There are other ways to create challenging simulations than to have super-fast moving enemies. No way a human can move faster than Spidey...I don't like that at all.

Free roam sounds improved but many of the swinging animations look the same as ASM and it's very difficult to tell from the footage shown, cause it was cut so quickly, at how well physics are playing a role. Endless crimes and stuff after the story is completed is a plus of course.

Yeah, I'm not fond of the super fast enemies for the same reasons you aren't fond of them. But I am glad there is a variety in the enemies now, brutes are a better enemy type than the speeders in my opinion since I can imagine there being big strong dudes who are thugs lol.

Honestly, I never understood why this was removed from the series. One of the best things about Spider-Man 2 was being able to go fight more crime after completing the story. My brother and I created our own ways of making the game feel fresh. Once, we hunted for a bad guy, swung to the highest point in the game and performed the spinning pile driver, just to see if it would take out Spidey and the bad guy (it doesn't). I was quite disappointed that beating Web of Shadows led to a sort of "New Game+" mode instead of simply allowing the player to go about the city and stop crime.

IMO, that is the best part of the game. Being Spider-man. Swinging around the city and stopping crime after crime or doing event after event. So, naturally, that's the best way to give the game replayability. I'm glad Beenox has listened to the fans and now, finally incorporated this feature.

edit: oh yeah...easily the best and endlessly fun move is the 100 story pile driver of doom. Muhahahaha!
