The webslinging looks really off to me. In fact, the Spidey model in general looks really poor, his animations look awkward while swinging and I dislike the odd, stylezed, cell-shaded-ish kinda look he has. He just seems to really stand out and not fit in very well with the rest of the environment.

With that said, this game looks like it has a lot of promise, I was rather impressed with how smooth the combat looks and I love the way the camera changes angles and shakes around as Spidey moves between enemies. Also the lighting looks good, really digging the glowing eyes in the shadows.

Yeah "copy n paste" was probably not the correct wording. But you can't deny that it looks like they took heavy inspiration from Arkham Origins ?

Eh, maybe. Could be a coincidence, I know Beenox are fans of the Arkham games so it's possible.

The idea of taking the shock gloves from a villain

Batman wasn't the first game to take weapons of the enemies and use them later on. Come on guys, not everything is copying Arkham and even if it is that's a good place to take inspiration from.

The thing about this game who got me worried is the story.. I don't think that a Uncle Ben killer plot or Fisk deserved a game, but the rest of it looks cool.

Let's see what happens.

I never thought this game is straight up copying Arkham or the thing is started by Arkham
Just said how it reminds matt47 of the Batman game

Didn't mean to quote you actually that was my mistake, I was writing in the thread in general, sorry about that.

By the way, just the gameplay portions:

They should've shown more web-swinging in combination with web rush in freeroam. Too many combat clips IMO, not that interested in combat gameplay (I'm usually fine with what they offer me, the freeroaming gameplay is what sells a Spidey game to me).

Wow I haven't been on the boards in like 2 days. I cant watch the gameplay footage at work, can anyone tell me if it looks alright?

It's just a few short clips showcasing web-swinging, web-rush and combat. The web swinging looks similar to Spider-Man 3 but has the momentum of Web of Shadows (like you can actually launch yourself up into the air, not the small 5cm jumps you did in SM3). Still not TOO happy from what I've seen from web swinging so far. It still looks too stiff IMO and the animations/poses and movement Spidey does doesn't really fit to the webline/angel he is attached to the webline. I'm overall no big fan of the sideway swinging, which is a sideproduct of attaching webs to structures left/right of you. Combat looks pretty similar to TASM1 but looks more fluid and has more refined animations (not as hacky as TASM1). Web-rush looks to be vastly improved with better animations from what I've seen (you see Spidey opening web-rush mode, aiming at Oscorp tower and then you see him pulling off a smooth, fluid move to get there. Not the usual 1 hand webzip he did in TASM1 most of the time).

It's still not really enough to warrant a purchase (Seeing as the clips are out of context and short, similar to the Carl Jr. promotional TASM1 clips we had 2 years ago that showed 5 seconds of webswinging) but it's a good indication that the game is headed into the right direction.

I thought the gameplay looks pretty nice, but certainly nothing unexpected. It still looks pretty clunky in terms of combat.

I would like to see the momentum boost in action. With SM2 you could see the speed blur on the screen when you use momentum. With past Beenox games you press x and there is no indication of speed or anything. That's my biggest concern. That's why I miss the x and the bottom of the swing mechanic. Notice how they never mentioned that in the interview's . I also miss the speed upgrades.

Have they given any info on whether or not the swinging is on auto if you hold it down, like it was in the first game? That would really suck :( I mean there were slight work arounds, like letting go early, but it really took a lot of control away from the player.

Idk man. I think they said it's not since you have to switch apparently but idk man. I'm still not 100% on the game itself. I don't understand why they don't just add a charge jump, air tricks, ground tricks, and a direct copy of the SM2 swing system. Along with a sprint button too. Idk guys.....it's like they deliberately leave stuff out just because.

I think it would be really cool if instead of just roll dodging...it had random animations each time, such as one dodge a roll, the next one a somersault, the next a handstand jump. Charge jump would be awesome, and air tricks would be so cool with this games graphics and cinematic feel

It sounds like you just want Spider-Man 2. Which is probably why they aren't doing any of those thing--they want to make their own game and, to be honest, nothing there except for the swinging system is even remotely close to necessary. In any way.

True. I really like the way they've made these Spidey games actually, very cinematic, like the movies.

I agree that such things are unnecessary, but those elements made Spidey feel like...well...Spidey. I miss the super jump. I hate having to climb up things I know that Spider-Man could leap on top of in the comic books. I miss the acrobatics. I miss the actual combos and special moves rather than having four or five base moves that get powered up. Spider-Man 2 did everything correct. All that was ever needed was a more lively city with more practical missions and no fetch quests/escort missions. Notice how the Arkham games don't really deviate from what was done in the first game. Every sequel just builds upon the ground work that has already been laid.

"Reinventing the wheel" is a huge problem for most video game franchises, but it is particularly troubling for Spider-Man. That is not to say that every Spider-Man game should be an open world title that replicates and enhances the experience of Spider-Man 2. I enjoy Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions simply because it is a fresh take on the Spider-Man game formula. However, it was not an open world title. When it comes to open world Spider-Man games, Spider-Man 2 is the benchmark to measure up to each and every time.

Anyone else get the impression that this game won't let you fire a second web before you release the previous one? Spider-man 2 was the only game to let you do this so far, and in my opinion it's the only way to accurately recreate Spider-man's swing style. I've been waiting for it to come back ever since.

It's frustrating to watch SM2 gameplay videos and see that players rarely even use the ability, which might be why the developers haven't bothered to bring it back.

I would use the ability constantly to zigzag above street level without ever free falling. You could pretty much keep your height constant and just alternate between left arm and right arm, covering large distances without ever being detached from a web. It was like the indoor swinging from ASM, except you could do it in the city so long as you had a row of buildings along each side of you. This was the best way to keep a car in sight, turn corners and would allow you to come to a stop above the ground by holding a web in each hand.
