The Amazing Spider-Man The Amazing Spider-Man Appreciation Thread

After seeing Andrew Garfield shine as Spider-Man/Peter Parker in NWH, it is time for Andrew to have his own trilogy.
'Nuff said!

I'm all for merging the Tom Hardy and TASM universe to be Sony's Spider Man

I really think they will want to use Venom for Holland tbh. Because it breaks that crossover barrier between Sony and the MCU.

After doing a rewatch of the TASM films…I gotta say, Andrew’s Peter/Spider-Man is definitely my favorite. Everything just clicks with me. His Peter is great and his Spider-Man is, pun non-intended, amazing.

The TASM 2 suit is easily my favorite. I need some more, updated Andrew Spidey merch, damnit!

Rewatched ASM for the first time in ages, and post NWH it's very hard to watch... Not because it's bad but because it just feels so damn tragic this time around. I thought that film really nailed the romance and the emotional trauma Peter has already gone through. He feels like a Peter in way more turmoil than Tobey ever was. So when he connects with Gwen, it's so sweet and authentic and was honestly always the thing I loved most about that film. It's like a really sweet indie romance within a Spidey film.

So knowing how broken he ends up being in NWH, it's so difficult to watch ASM without knowing how he heals from that. Sure he had a nice moment of closure of sorts in NWH but I would really, really love to see them revisit that world just to close of his arc.

Thread's 10 year anniversary coming up...

Appreciation thread for the appreciation thread?

It had potential with the cast over two films, but mediocre/bad writing and an unseasoned director under the thumb of rudderless producers did the franchise in.

If you are referring to TASM2 strictly, I would have to agree.

I find myself thinking it's not so good a movie, but it is one hell of a Spidey movie.

Much moreso with TASM2, but I had issues with both.

I thought the first film was pretty good, but had the earmark of something that could have been great with more conviction and better execution. Ultimately it was an echo of what it should have been.

I was annoyed by Conners truncated arc in the first film and disliked the whole concept/set-up for Oscorp being a kind of Tower of Babel/Villian factory which obviously carried over into the second film with Electro and Harry. It just made the mythos feel far too contained for my liking and New York as a character feel much smaller, as everything was emanating from this one block/building.

The cast is what stood out for me with those films, particularly the two stars. I loved Andrew Garfield in the role. He is my favorite Peter and Spider-Man because the story and his performance really captures the two distinct voices really well. They also lean more into Spidey's anti-establishment/loner ethic (reflective of Ditko's objectivist philosophy while he was writing Spidey) which is a throughline throughout many the comics. Emma Stone as Gwen is my favorite love interest too, in part because we get Gwen for a change and in part because of the great chemistry between the two. They both brought great depth to their performances despite the varying quality of the scripts they had to work with.
