This is a thread for the discussion of the deleted scenes and visual changes of the movie. I am sure that we will get the list of scenes and more, once they will reveal all the DVD details in a couple of months. I took some notes on this particular topic (had some time to catch up with all tv-spots and etc) and decided to post it (if I've missed something, then I'm sure someone else will be able to update it later) while I still remember some stuff here and there.
But before I begin, I would like to make an important request for some of you: unless you have seen the movie, please, don't go inside the spoilers section of this thread. Thank you!

* "Do you have any idea, what you really are? If you want the truth, Peter, come and get it! Do you think what happened to you, Peter, was an accident?": these lines weren't in the movie, as well as the entire scene, where Peter encounters both Ratha and Curt Connors in his sewer lab. I suppose, it's long enough + if Ratha survives during the fight, then not only it explains a few plot holes, but also - how a particular character figured out Spidey's identity in the very end of the film.

* The scene where Lizard enters Midtown High was completely changed: in the final version of the film there are no two girls present, no violence, no Lizard taking girls into the corner of school's bathroom, licking one of them and smiling, saying a few words and then chewing them (like in the San Diego Comic-Con footage). Even his visual appearance is not the same (definitely toned down, less beast-like and scary).

* The 3D POV shot from the very first teaser trailer was not only changed (visually, along with a couple of different scenes), but also was quickly cut down by pieces in the movie, so it's not that impressive anymore, meaning: you don't get to feel yourself in the shoes of Spider-Man in that particular moment.

* A couple of scenes are missing (thank god they left the Intimidating Doorman one out of the picture). Some of them were never shown in the trailers (in the picture above + the story of Curt's family and his son Billy (played by Miles Elliot).

Hahaha I couldn't resist clicking the damn spoiler tag. And you even double spoiler tagged it! I have no will power.

Sucks to know some of those scenes have been taken out. I wonder why. Hopefully a directors cut will come sometime down the road!

Oh, I also don't mind spoilers. Not trying to be disrespectful and going against your wishes. I don't plan on sharing these tidbits with people who haven't seen the movie yet. It's pretty much just for my knowledge alone. I love knowing more about the background of projects than the actual projects themselves. It was curiosity.

Hope you don't mind RIM!

It seems like they've left some MAJOR scenes on the cutting room floor. Here's hoping for a director's cut.

I never understood why we got a director's cut of Spider-Man 2, but not for Spider-Man 3 (which needed one badly).

If they really chopped out a huge chunk of the origin, with the parents playing a larger role and all. Wouldn't making a director's cut and/or extended edition confuse audiences? That is, if it really is all that different

Also think that this movie is 136 minutes long. I wonder how much longer it would be if a lot wasn't cut out. Maybe 150 minutes?

Man....i am so confused! I read the spoilers. So is Ratha even in this film, is Peter's parents even apart of the trilogy anymore???? What is going on!?

Ratha is there, but he suddenly vanishes after the bridge scene.

Peter's parents are only in the first act. From then, there is no real mention of them. They are basically left for the sequel. I wish they could at least shed some light on their backstory, since everything about them in the film was already given in trailers

Who would've thought that the Comic Con footage turned out to be THAT exclusive ;)

Really disappointed they cut that first scene out, it apparently explained some stuff.

Wasn't Webb praising Irkhan Khan (spelling)? Why is so much of him cut out of the movie then?

I really wanted that bloody scene. lol It looked like it would have been good. Oh well gotta wait for DVD.

There's one thing I'm curious about:

Early on in the filming stages, we heard that the comic character Sally Avril would be appearing in Midtown Science High, as well as another girl who crushes on Peter. Can anyone who's seen the movie confirm or deny the existence of these characters?

Well, one of the two girls appeared in the movie.Short, but funny scene

At first you'd think she's asking him out on a date but then she asks Peter if he could take a photo of her boyfriend's car (or something like that) for his birthday

While I haven't seen the movie:

1) Connors telling Peter he reminds him of his father is a HUGE deal to the character.
2) Peter finding the briefcase then having to ask Aunt May & Uncle Ben. Once again, a huge deal for his character.
3) At dinner with Gwen, having that brought up would be extremely awkward.
4) Peter's chip on his shoulder extremely reminds me of myself lol (another 'orphan').

Basically, is it there? While the lizard scene and reveal may be gone - I'd say it's a very important part of what drives the film and the character.

Another scene that got cut out is at the football field with Peter talking to the coach, which was a funny moment as shown in the trailer.

Well that's awesome. How about some of the other characters at Midtown High? Liz Allan (and possibly her brother), Robbie Robertson (or was that his father's name?) and possibly that other black kid who becomes the Prowler or something? Heck just seeing them in there playing relatively minor roles would be the icing on the cake.

I know a lot of people complained about that scene being too corny, so maybe its good that they cut it out.

I'm sorry if I'm outta the loop in this regard, but someone PLEASE fill me in because I have to know in order to properly adjust my expectations for tomorrow's midnight showing: where these recent edits and cuts done by Webb and was it his intention /design or was this some sort of studio mandate??? I'm crossing my fingers it was Webb's decision!

It's Randy Robertson :cwink:

I don't think we've heard about any of those students that you mentioned. There might be a small line or two to reference them, but I don't think we'll see them at all.
I was actually hoping for Liz Allan, and then when I heard they wouldn't delve into the Daily Bugle that much, I ruled out Randy Robertson, too.

Trailer 2!

Is that the exact same shot? Looks very, very similar. Did they just push the camera in, or re-frame the shot?

Seems like a lot of scenes have been cut
We really need the Ratha-Connors-Spidey confrontation in the sewers,it has most probably a fight scene and a fight scene should never be cut out
Also the scenes of him sitting on top of a lamp post and swinging with Gwen seems fun scenes,no idea why they are cut

To be fair, a lot of background changes are done for the trailer just to make sure not to tip away what is plot points and what not.

I also want to say, while i liked Irkhan Khan in the film...after the bridge sequence i wasn't realy thinking of his character anymore, so him being cut out didn't effect me or my taking of the story at all. I was caught up with more of Lizard vs. Spidey, Pete/Gwen and everything else going on.
