Thought I'd share a new project I am working on with you guys. I wanted to buy a new coffee table for my apartment, and in looking at them I couldn't really find one that I liked that much. After thinking about it I thought "what the hell, I'll design one myself"....and since I'm such a huge Superman fan I thought why not combine the two?

This is the current design I am working with right now. I sketched it on paper, and modeled it in 3D so I can have it made. The red part of the "S" is raised about 1/2" from the yellow backing, and the very top diamond shape is a piece of frosted glass raised about 1" by some steel standoffs.

Anyway, I'll post progress pics of the actual construction, but let me know what you think in the meantime.

I think that's cool that your making your own coffee table, but before building it you should think about how it will look in your living room. The big Red and Yellow "S" could end up being an eyesore.

Forget the colour. It looks a lot better in plain black and white. Classier.

You could have the "S" frosted into the glass and have a plain white shelf underneath.

If I were you I would make the whole "S" part black with the "S" outlined in silver. If you want to go real crazy, you could make the silver lines metal.

i have a superman table like that ...but my "S" was a bigg printed out picture from the photo shop (with high res.) and i had it placed on the table (table height was 4 inches) so after i placed the "S" in the table, my friend added some white liquid, that after it dries up, it turns to like see-thru glass....i 4got the name

The table was designed in Sketchup, and the Brandon Routh was all recreated using Adobe Illustrator....it's not something where I can just tell the computer to transform a real picture into artwork--I had to redraw the whole thing by myself.

The chose of color is just just ghastly and the shape of the shadows makes him look old. I suggest you take a look at the actual colors of his face and try to get them closer. You need atleast 3 tones.

lol, I love the coffee table design.

And I think the color choice is fine with that Superman piece, cleaner rendering in the face would give him that more youthful look that Routh has. And I'd like to see more of a hint of eyelids/lashes, since I know he has them and it looks odd without them. But the color choices itself are perfectly fine.

I agree with you. Perhaps I will go back and add to it, but once I've finished something I like to move on. If there are problems with it I just chalk it up to experience and hopefully take the advice I've been given and apply it to my next pic.

Here are some quick shots of some designs I came up with for a pretty big project I am working on. Can't go into specifics but if all goes well this will definitely be one of the biggest things I've worked on. I've got a lot of this stuff, and I'll be working on it over the next couple weeks so I'll be sure to post what I've got.

I think it's the eyes and the eyebrows. Rick James always seems to have a half asleep look. The eyebrows are to arched and mean looking. Make his lips fuller and don't such a severe "hook" in his nose make it rounder and smooth it out.

I think that's why he looks like Hook his features are a little too severe....IMHO

Not really, I just wanted it to be recognized as Ron Burgundy and not Will Ferrel (if that's possible). I've gotten a pretty positive response on that one thus far, so I think I'll leave him alone. Rick James will be revamped so he doesn't look so much like Captain Hook anymore.

I think it's around the eyes and cheekbones. His eyes kind of sag rather than squint.
