SOme critic is going to give this a negative review just to get attention and some hits on his/her website. I remember it happened with 1st class last year. Some idiot critic actually tweeted proudly that he had the 1st negative review on RT for the movie..smh

I cannot tell you how pumped I am for May 4! I even took the day off of work! ....well truth be told I took it off because we're remodeling the master bath, but still! :)

removed for double post.

Wasn't there a couple like that for Toy Story 3?

Sorry, if you don't like a film like Toy Story 3 you truly are a misanthrope.

Double win!

People didn't like Toy Story 3? I swear if you didn't bawl at the beginning and the end of that movie, you truly are made of ice. One of my favorite movies from 2010.

It's absolutely lovely to see these positive-to-glowing rave reviews about TA. I have to admit, until now, I didn't realize that Emanuel Levy was a respected critic. I had sort of assumed he was kind of a small time movie blogger.

I cannot wait to see the "critic reviews" spot for TA. It should be impressive right now, even with just those blurbs from Variety and THR. Actually, looking at the review blurbs on RT, the quotes that were picked out are really superlative. Even on some of the weaker positive reviews. Not too shabby, Avengers! Not too shabby.

Love this one because of the non-fan factor...

It's not just spectacle but a SMART film!

Whedon’s Avengers Assemble is almost improbably good, considering the possible pitfalls. Enjoyable enough in terms of sheer adrenaline, where it really comes into its own is in how satisfying the whole thing is emotionally. It’s such a huge relief as a cinemagoer to be able to revel in a film like this without having to switch off your brain or check your critical faculties at the door (or worse, being told that disliking - say - a Transformers movie is somehow a failing on your part, because you didn’t dumb yourself down enough in advance before watching, and what did you expect?).

In contrast, if you watch Avengers without your brain engaged, you’ll still have a pretty good time, but you’ll also miss out, since this is filmmaking as smart as it is colourful and exciting. Smart yes, dark, no - Avengers Assemble is also bright and funny, skilfully sidestepping the nihilism fallacy, which seeks to suggest comic book movies are somehow more valid when they’re “dark”.

I have the day off from work as well May 4th and I can't wait! The midnight is gonna be crazy where I live! Also anyone else notice that the extreme Dark Knight Rises fanboys have been trolling this movie on various sites ever since the reviews have been popping up?

I had my doubts about Whedon. But seeing these reviews it looks like he pulled it off.

I guess than I am a misanthrope. Worse things happend.
I'm curious how long RT can keep the 100% score. two hours? four?
I'm taking bets.

I believe it can last throughout this weekend, possibly longer. There are still many reviews that have yet to be posted due to embargo, and so I think the positive reviews will keep rolling in. However, since RT has labeled some positive reviews as negative in the past, who knows if TA can keep this up even if every critic likes the movie?

And it'll get worse. :word:

The critics posting the review decide whether it's negative or positive.

I really like this review, because the critic really knows what she's talking about. Here's a part of the review that I really like:

No, not really. I'm willing to bet that, in actuality, there are very few people who exist that see it as 'their film vs your film'. So let's all make a pact to not sound like d-bags and talk about just The Avengers.

The critics posting the review decide whether it's negative or positive.

Really? I've read some seemedly-positive reviews that were considered rotten on RT. So those critics can decide whether to make their review positive or negative despite what they apparently wrote?

Yup. That's why you see some 3/5 that are rotten and some that are fresh.

It's up to the reviewer when submitting their review.

This whole concept that "dark" equals better needs to go because frankly, there haven't been that many dark comic book films. That narrative just needs to go.

It's not like after the Dark Knight and Watchmen hit in back to back years that every superhero film/comic book film went straight dark.

They haven't....

Nobody can EVER say that the Summer of '11 had dark, comic book films.

Since The Guardian gives The Avengers 3/5, I wonder which side they will choose for their review on RT.
