It first debuted in Detective Comics #48, Febuary of 1941. However before the 'bat' design debuted, Batman drove a red automobile. Which looked to be heavily based on a 1936 Cord. To some, the nose of the car suggested it was a Lincoln. The bat mask hadn't made it's appearence yet, though the front the car did sport around a bat hood ornament.
During the 1940's, the Batmobile was often drawn as a two door sedan. With a bat mask over the front grille, and a very large vertical shaped bat-fin on the roof of it.
