After making her directorial debut with the Season 3, Episode 6 "Napkins" on The Bear, Emmy winner Ayo Edebiri learned to co-penn an episode for Season 4 with Lionel Boyce.
I think there were rumors the creatives planned out a three season arc, but FX wanted four, so they made a deal to shoot Seasons 3 & a big chunk of 4 at the same to accommodate the shooting schedules on the big gigs those three booked (Springsteen, MCU, Ayo's James L Brooks and Luca films). Would make sense why Season 3 was so barren and a falloff compared to S01 & 02, and they're able to make a June air date this soon.
