anyone actually seen/got the new League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen book? I've heard it's been published in the US, but not over here in the UK due to copywrite issues? Is this true? And is there anyone else desperate to get hold of this?

I havent seen it anywhere...

As far as I know, it's not coming out until November 14th.

Knowing about all of the delays I total wouldn't be suprised if this was some practical joke Moore has conconcted to stick it to DC. It seems unlike Moore to say in interviews, "not my best comic ever, not the best comic ever, but the best thing ever" if he's not messing with somebody.

Checked in wiki, its release date was continually pushed back. Originally solicited for May 30, 2006, then October 25, 2006, then January 10, 2007, then October 24, 2007, then moved up October 3, 2007. and currently is slated for release on November 14, 2007.

Yes, you're correct about the copywrite issues, since the UK has slightly different laws regarding how many years it takes before certain literary characters to become public domain. What with most of the Black Dossier being set in the 50s, this could obviously be a problem.

Still, although it won't be distributed by normal means, its not illegal to buy it from overseas through amazon or ebay or whatever.

I know DC already has plans for an Absolute.

Also, maybe that English copyright law does have something to do with it, check this: Bill Willingham is supposedly very much looking forward to 2008, as that will mark the time when Peter Pan finally enters the public domain and he can use him in Fables.

I meant of the Black Dossier. I own the other two.

Can't wait for that myself. He said that he wanted him to end up being the Adversary. That woulda been awesome.

Is anybody aware if he still plans to release it in the 'McSweeny's' type format (with lots of mini-books, fold-outs etc)? I remember in an interview he said its LITERALLY going to be a dossier, so it would collect short stories as well, hence the mini books and fold-out stuff and I'm sure he even mentioned there being an audio-tape in the pack...
Or do you think it's more likely DC will make him stick to the standard book format, considering he's gone so far over-time? Frankly the idea of it being like a League 'fun pack' sounds alright. Thoughts?

Hopefully, this time, it will actually come out. I love LoEG.

I'm actually looking forward to Volume 3 more, mainly because I think he's planning a West Wing tie-in to the world of the League.

And according to the Black Dossier's Wikipedia entry, Harry Lime is going to be James Bond's boss. I don't know if that's speculation or not, but that's still pretty sweet.

West Wing tie-in? In what way.

Yeah I know he plans to bring in James bond as a cameo, and he's supposedly referring to him as 'Jimmy' to avoid copyright issues.

The official plot summary says that part of the third volume of The League will be set in 2008 and will involve a war in the nation of Q'umar. Qumar is a fictional country in the West Wing universe that's located in the Arab world, with all of its associated problems- basically a device to talk about the Middle East without discussing and potentially insulting a real nation.

So, yeah. That ties it into The West Wing.

wow, its changed since i last heard of it. i thought he was setting it in the 40s.

Yeah, where did you hear 2008?

"What you need to know: The story is set in an alternative-history England roughly 50 years after the Martian invasion of 1898. Quatermain and Murray, both strangely younger than when we saw them previous (and they were quite old back then — like, liver-spotted and wrinkled-prune old), are trying to track down a mysterious book that contains secrets about their League adventures and revelations about other League teams throughout history. Natch, there are some baddies who are desperate to make sure the dynamic duo fail in their quest. "

from what I hear, it takes place in 3 different time frames...40s, 60s, and modern times...

Color me excited. It's about time "Black Dossier" comes out.

Yeah, where did you hear 2008?

That's going to be in the third volume of the League, which is going to come after The Black Dossier. The one that's coming out next week is set in the 50's, yes, as well as reviewing the entire history of the League universe. The third League volume will be set in three eras: the 1911, 1968, and 2008.

Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Dossier is the third volume...

Nope. There is going to be another volume, which is the third volume. This is... the Black Dossier.

From the League of Leagues website:

THE BLACK DOSSIER is not the same as Volume III
A note by way of explaination:
Two volumes of the League already exist, they both were collections of six issues of a regular comicbook. The next League release will be called "Black Dossier" and it will be a graphic novel of approximately 200 pages long (not released as single issues) and will be from DC. The next regular comicbooks featuring the league will appear in late 2008 (or early 2009) which will be collected as Volume III (three issues) and will be published by Top Shelf.
