The Book of Henry

The trailer was so..odd. It's awkwardly cut, and the second half's tone turns the Spielberg vibe into a..thriller about a very serious subject matter.

That's what it seemed to me too. How this trailer is cut is that it seems to really going out of its way to not reveal something.

The problem is, Henry is being acknowledged by other characters, and even did an oral presentation in front of his class.

So unless he dies half way, in which I doubt, or there's a narrative frame where we are not seeing the actual reality of the scenes, I don't think he's a ghost-boy.

I think 'Gifted' looks better, though I'm sorta sick of seeing the semi-autistic intellectual kid plot lines. It's been done before, and I think it's just an easy troupe to handle unless you can add a twist to the cliches. With Gifted, it seems less offensive and cliche.

I'm thinking he dies at the midpoint or before the third act and Watts character takes over. What she's listening to are his instructions he left for her before he died and she has to follow them (since it seems he has this ability to predict outcome?) It just seems set up. Henry does everything for her where she doubts herself so it makes sense for her character to be on her own without her son's help. It's like the reversal of a parent dying where the kid has to pick up the pieces.

That does make sense after rewataching. It does feel like the book is something that he leaves behind for his mom. Otherwise, why call it the 'Book of Henry' if he's still alive and well right?

This is what I am leaning towards now... Which if so... I think the trailer is a bit too "whimsical" if that is indeed what happens. Frankly,
the subject matter in general feels a lot weightier than the beginning par of the trailer suggests.

This could be 2017's Collateral Beauty.

That's why it's such a weird trailer and premise.

You have a potentially autistic child, whose genius is so amazing that he can make Rubes Goldberg anything. You also have poor Sarah Silverman playing a Chelsea Handler type.

Then.. you have a young female neighbor who is potentially being sexually/physically abused by her step-dad, a man of influence. I was not expecting the latter...

From what Ive heard, the screenplay is much more light-hearted compared to what we have seen in the trailer.

So there are some pretty dismal reactions coming out for this.

Someone even claimed the film would one day stand side to side with The Room and Birdemic.

Here's where I continue to worry over the quality of Episode IX.

Not sure when reviews drop for this but early buzz has been bad.

There's only 4 reviews on RT so far, but their ripping the movie apart.

This is the second Naomi Watts/Jacob Tremblay collaboration in a row that's been shredded apart by critics.

I'm reading the THR one right now and it includes this sentence:

Spoiler-averse readers have moved-on, right? Because it's impossible to report how stupid things get without being specific.

*sigh*

Fair ****s about the movie being bad, I don't doubt it. But Evan Saathoff calling anything obnoxious is a huge case of pot and kettle.

I'd take the reanimated corpse of Richard Marquand at this point.

The movie isn't bad. Amongst So many f**king films that are sequels and reboots, this is a breath of fresh air. You are introduced to this light-hearted world but as the film goes on it naturally gets darker.
Somewhere halfway through, the film takes a critical left turn to show us something a bit more dark and a bit more tragic. When it takes the turn, it becomes an entirely separate film than it was marketed to be. It genuinely takes you by surprise. Shoot, even the film’s humor becomes dark halfway through as well. The film becomes 13 Reasons Why meets How to Get Away With Murder

Here's My Review: https://rendyreviews.com/movies//the-book-of-henry-review

Don't rely on all of the b.s RT has to say. 47 Meters Down currently has a fresh rating and thats one of the worst pieces of ***** I've seen this year.

The trailer for this is one of the most insane things I've ever seen. It's a quirky dramedy... no! It's an 80s Amblin flick... no! It's a harrowing drama about child abuse... no! It's an intense thriller about potential assassination. And played completely straight all the way through. Amazing.

The trailer is such utter lunacy of perfection, I feel like watching the movie would only ruin the experience.

So Star Wars fans must be looking at these early reactions and having their confidence crushed bit by bit. In fact, I know that they are because I am one and have talked to others.
