The Comedian will not have a gimp mask.

You really can't use the trailer as evidence that the mask is gone. There's no way the MPAA would allow a gimp mask to be in a "Approved For All Audiences" trailer. Especially since Empire Magazine clearly stated that they saw him wearing the mask during the filming of the scene.

Although it's hardly definitive, was the mask seen in the SDCC or Movie-Con footage?

Personally I never quite understood the mask, except for hiding his scar. Comedian's a pretty sadistic guy, but a gimp mask would reflect masochism more than anything, wouldn't it?

I think that this is a pretty glaring ****up, but I'm sure the explaination will be something to the tune of:

"oh, you don't get it....this is like Clark Kent, and his glasses....you see we are parodying that with the comedian's domino mask, we don't need a more severe scar, or a gimp mask to cover it and conceal Blake's identity--even though that makes perfect sense and should never have been changed. The domino mask is enough, and it's a smart little prod at established comic book gimmicks....see? It's kinda like nipples on ozymandias."

This is pretty ****ing stupid. I'm interested to see how they are going to play this, but I think that it's a pretty huge mistep story-wise. Is everyone too stupid to know that Blake is the comedian?

:whatever:

Ahhhh, the tousai.....the everlasting, self righteous, friendly neighborhood pain-in-the-ass.

Ok, so go ahead and tell me, why this isn't lame. I await with bated breath.

The mask had a purpose, yes? The scar gave away Blake's identity. A domino mask would not cover the scar, and would thusly be completely ****ing pointless as opposed to the scar concealing gimp mask. Why would Rorschach be suprised at discovering Blake's secret? Dan, any of the other characters? Their inability to simply connect the ****ing dots labels them as hopelessly ******ed, and you don't think that that is a ****up?

:whatever: indeed, sir.

and by the way, as much as I *****, I'm still seeing this goddamn movie. I'm just dissapointed by these little....inconsistencies.....My Chemical Romance.....

Was Blake's identity really a secret? I mean, you have scenes like that party where everyone clearly knows who he is (where Laurie throws wine in his face); he had a public military funeral; Moloch (an ex-villain, right? not in the government loop) knows who he is; Adrian Veidt, his nemesis knew (I doubt Blake would have let him in on a secret, although Veidt admittedly could have found out on his own); etc. Sometimes it seems like Rorschach was the only person who didn't know, and he's kind of a crackpot anyway.

Yes, Blake's identity was definitely a secret. Rorschach and Dan Dreiberg did not know who the Comedian was until after his death. Dan's shocked reaction when Rorschach visits him shows this.

Laurie knew because she was with Doc Manhattan (both Osterman and Blake were gov't operatives). The party you mention was in honor of Blake--not the Comedian and included only america's political elite and gov't operatives (Ford, G. Gordon Liddy, etc.) She also knew because her mother had told her what had happened between herself and Blake when the two were minutemen.

Veidt is veidt. He did a great deal of investigating of the original minutemen, including the dissapearance of Hooded Justice. During that time, he undoubtedly uncovered the true idenity of the Comedian being that the two were rivals and had battled each other before.

Moloch knew Blake was the comedian because of Blake's drunken midnight visit to moloch's apartment. Blake was **** faced so he forgot to wear his mask and Moloch saw his real face.

So no, it was not a well known fact and was basically a secret. Only a small number if people knew because he wore a mask that covered his face and hid his scar.

Sounds good to me.

On the movie version, The Comedian will not have his gimp mask. Zack Snyder decided that Blake shoud use his scar as a trophy, and that's how it's going to be on the movie.
See this is what I hate you get these directors saying they'll be faithful and then when it comes to a certain detail they have to stick their noses in and change stuff. Personally I hate the mask and like the domino mask better and he wore one in his earlier days but still if you're going to be faithful then be faithful, and it did have a certain statement about Blake and, now it's lost. Lemme' guess the actor didn't want his precious wittle face covered up. Then don't take the role idiot.:yay:

Just a quick thought but maybe the domino mask will cover the scar anyway. Isnt the scar by his eye?

I looked at some pics but they wernt big enough for me to properly tell so i could be wrong.

Quite honestly I think the gimp mask is among the least important aspects of Blake's character. I think his cigar is more important. I think the stars and stripes on his shoulders are more important. I think his first costume change (yellow suit to black suit) is more important than this second one (domino to gimp mask). I think the bit of gray in his hair is more important. Not to mention his actual behavior and dialogue, which far outweighs any aspects of his appearance. Etc., etc.

The gimp mask covered the scar, sure. But now the domino mask basically does that. The gimp mask was also a comment on how perverted and sadistic he is. But it's not necessary to make that point: all that raping and murdering he does is more than enough, I think.

The gimp mask was basically in one single scene. It wasn't pointless in the GN, but that doesn't mean it was necessary either. I don't quite see the point of taking it out (besides some visual continuity, like the mustache), but I don't really miss it personally.

I'm betting it's more so that you can see him emoting, and acting, in some key scenes. I can see why it was left off him in those sequences. I don't the secret identity thing is that big a deal. It's not like there's no one in the world who looks similar to Edward Blake. I doubt he'd be recognized on the street or anything.
