On the movie version, The Comedian will not have his gimp mask. Zack Snyder decided that Blake shoud use his scar as a trophy, and that's how it's going to be on the movie.

Any source for this info?

In any case, it's not a big loss. It's only one less image reflecting an obvious aspect of the character, as well as the suggestive side of costumed crime-fighters, which will be made quite clear in a number of other ways.

i never really thought anyway the reason he wore the wrestler's mask was to hide his scar.

Odd. Empire Magazine clearly states that Blake has the gimp mask during the riots. They would know since they were actually present while they were filming it.

And without a source I'm calling B.S.

And to the two guys above me:

1. Since it'll create a plot hole where there wasn't one I'd say it's a bit more than "not a big loss."

2. It's not a wrestlers mask...it's a gimp mask. And if you don't know why he wears it I strongly suggest you reread the book.

Could you elaborate on this? What plot hole does it create?

Could you elaborate on this?

Sure.

It's not major major, but here they are (I'm too lazy at the moment to form a proper paragraph / sentence):

1. Althought not a real plot hole, he wears the mask as added protection to his face for obvious reasons. It ties into him switching to an all leather costume after he was stabbed in his early days when he wore that jester / clown outfit. It's a natural progression as far as practical superhero costumes are concerned.

2. He wears the mask to conceal his identity. While a domino mask isn't the best, a freakishly huge and identifiable scar would give him away very easily. Especially since his picture is posted on TV reports and in the newspapers. Without it it's not hard to find a guy with a 7 inch scar on his face. At least the gimp mask hid all of that very well.

:yay:

Those aren't really plot holes, or at least as you said, they're not major. Sure it's protective and follows a progression, but that doesn't mean it's essential. I can see what you mean about hiding his scar, but how many times do we actually see him wearing it in the novel? Although this would leave his identity harder to conceal, what I mean by saying that it's "not a big loss" is that in an adaptation as massive as this, you have to have some concessions. While I would have preferred to see the gimp mask in the movie, and I'm not exactly sure why they wouldn't include it (if in fact it's true that they aren't including it), I'm not going to panic and I don't see any reason to raise a fuss about it (not that anyone has yet, but you know how things go around here).

Jeffrey Dean Morgan himself told that the Comedian would not have the Gimp mask on a Set magazine interview. Here's the trascript:

SET: Jeffrey, and you don't use the leather mask that covers Comedian's entire face on the novel...

JEFFREY DEAN MORGAN: No, it was a Zack decision. The Comedian uses his scar as a trophy.

Hows about posting a link instead of typing what was said?

There is no Link. The interview was published on a brazillian maganize, and there's only transcripts.

Are you doubting of me? Because i'm a man of my word.

I always thought the Comedian was using his mask so that nobody would recognize him. I mean, if he shows his scare, everybody will know that Edward Blake IS the Comedian...since they both has a scare. I don't understand. So in the film, everyone knows that Blake is the Comedian??

Well, if you were at Comic-Con, they did show the gimp mask, right?

i remember seeing costume designs with the gimp mask, and i think i remember seeing a glimpse of it in the teaser.

In the trailer, he isn't wearing the mask when he's standing on top of the Owl Ship in front of the protesters. He also isn't wearing it in the promo poster. These are two instances in which the comic version is wearing the mask. So I guess it's safe to say that the live action Comedian will be maskless.

I wonder if the MPAA is saying no to the gimp mask? Which could be the reason why they haven't really released it.

but he needs the mask...to conceal his identity? not unless people are dumb enough to not notice him by just the eye piece

wow. you are sassy aren't you?

here's what i know about the book. all the instances he's in public places, such as christmas parties, benefit gigs, etc, when he's not in his Comedian garb, he wears his Comedian pin. if gibbons and moore are expecting me to think that that was his disguise: wearing his pin around all the damn time, then i don't know what to think. perhaps that was just one of their roastings on the comic book industry up till that point. it really didn't seem like blake really needed to conceal his identity to anyone. i mean, it's not like Clark Kent parades around with a superman pin on his lapel every day at the Planet.

Chapter IX. Page 21. Panel three. Blake is present. His scar is present. His pin is present. And it's a dinner to honor him. Even Ford was there.

if not everyone in that alternate reality knew who the Comedian was, he or she was an idiot.

And yet Clark Kent can just take off his glasses and change his hair, and BAM, no one knows he's Superman?

So what if they both have a scar? Lots of people have scars. Besides anyone who doesn't already know Edward Blake is the Comedian probably just plain doesn't know who Edward Blake is.

Hard to say if the whole thing about this gimp mask is true or not; now I can appreciate how his scar's a good enough trophy and undertandable way to go, I really do think that.................. but I also gotta give credit to those who believe he wears the gimp mask to hide his scar. If you notice he kinda starts wearin' the gimp mask after his little misshap with Ms. Vietnam; but if you've seen the second Watchmen Journal some people may think otherwise......... :brucebat:

However this was only a concept, so it's hard to determine; we're gonna need more sources determining whether or not if he's gonna wear the mask or not. Not doubting anyone or pointing any fingers, but this kinda thing is something you gotta hear from the horse's mouth.

While I agree it isnt really a big deal it's still a bit disappointing to me. I always thought the gimp mask was really cool. Not really a fan of the domino mask.

that concept gimp mask looks great...why didnt they use it....dang

We see Blake once without his mask and with his scar in public. That place happened to be a dinner to honor him that was filled with government employees and other very important people (like Ford, who you mentioned). All of whom we can assume knew who Blake really was since he gave up fighting crime and revealed his identity to them so that he could work for them.

I fail to see how most people would be an “idiot” if they didn’t know classified information on a special-ops government employee who always wore a disguise and mask in public. If the public knew who he was why would the government bother to set up his cover as an overseas diplomat?

And my screename has nothing to do with the word “sassy.”

bing-****in-o.

it's clear that two times he was clearly wearing the mask, he is clearly not in this movie version.

and i am also disappointed about it, like many others. yes, no one knew blake was the comedian, and a giant ass scar is pretty much a dead giveaway. plus the gimp mask was great.
