The Critics' Reviews of Spider-Man 3 Thread

I'm saying people wern't complaining than, why now

Oh, my bad! Probably because it was right after 9/11 then, now they tink it's just superfluous...either way, it's not enough of the film for me to worry about.

Now, PoTC:AWE(ful) doesn't look to be faring so well.

Damn, I thought it wouldn't fare too well with the critics but not that bad. At least this makes Spidey 3 look better.

Did anyone forget Spiderman hangs on an American flag in the first as well?
The American Flag shot didn't bother me that much, but I can see why people would complain about it. When Spider-Man hangs on the American flag in Spidey 1 it's done a much more subtle way than when he leaped in front of one taking up nearly the entire screen in Spidey 3. The image combined with the loud, dramatic music gave a much more cheesy effect.

Would it make people feel better if Spider-Man knocked the American Flag over in a fight with Nuclear Man on the moon and then raised it back up after the fight was over? :)

Roeper's opinion doesn't count. He gave Mr. 3000 a thumbs up. The only reason he is a critic is because he can't make movies himself. Go make your own movie and see how critics like it, you fat b!tch.

:whatever: So just because he didn't like the movie his opinion doesn't count? I thought he wrote a pretty well-written review, even if I did disagree with him on some of his points.

I loved Spidey 3, but I will say the flag shot was a little bit much. Not enough to ruin the film or anything, it just seemed a bit forced. As for the critics comment from the commercial, let's remember that regardless, MOST critics liked Spidey 3. Just because the guys in the limelight like Roeper didn't like it doesn't reflect the majority.

Agreed! Check out this review. This guy pretty much sums up how I feel.

He isn't really a critic, but he might as well be.

Ah, I love this guy's videos!

Anyway, he summed up how I feel, too. A lot of people are complaining about stuff, but even if that stuff was "fixed," people would find another thing to complain about!

I also have to say AMEN about what that guy said about the American flag part. A-freaking-men!

this comment should really be one the flag thread. but imho the big difference between SM1 flag shot and SM3 flag shot (not that it bothered me) was at the end of spider-man1 spider-man completes a simply STUNNING swing (seriously how blown away were you when you saw it for the first time, wasn't even topped in SM2) he does this beautiful swing around the city lands on a flag pole and then swings into the screen

where as in SM3 he is swining to save mj - stops - jogs past a flag which fills the entire screen and then he continues swinging towards mj. the scene just seems contrived and unnessasary (not that it bothered me personally) but I can see why people have commented on it.

SM1 - spidey lands on a flag pole which 'happens' to have the american flag
SM3 - spidey stop swinging to jog past a flag which fills the screen

I actually think he was in the majority, as far as critics go, the overall consensus was slightly negative. Thats not to say there was a great number of positive reviews, I just believe there were that little bit more negatives.

I swear theres a thread for heads to b1tch and moan about the American flag, damn, you guys just cant get enough.

Well, given the fact that RT gives Spidey 3 a Fresh rating, albeit a borderline one says that most (roughly two thirds) critics gave the movie a positive rating. And bear in mind that MANY people are saying that upon multiple viewings the movie improves, were critics so inclined the rating might have been higher.

I really don't think you should base it all on RT. It's a completely flawed system. A system that should never of been introduced to the Hype, it's become like the bible to many. People were screaming all sorts of blasphemy when it dropped to such a low number.

That may be true. I was looking at the Worst to Best comics and thought it was way off on alot of films. For example, no way League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was worse than Batman & Robin. But- flawed thought it may be, at the very least, RT has registered that 2/3s of critics liked Spidey 3.

Ye, I read that article, Blade was way too low in the charts. I'm referring more to the actual rating system though, the fact that it can only be Fresh or Rotten makes it difficult to establish a credible rating, what a critic may actually rate 3 stars would be considered as a Rotten rating. So it's not fair to judge the critical response based on the tomatometer.

"People" who liked spiderman 3, people as in the ones who are only there to watch the action scenes, the 13/14/15 year olds that are just glad to see spiderman regardless of a script full of holes, people who never cared for the first 2 movies and understood how much more solid they were - theyre not people that i care for.

Bull****. im 34 and thoroughly enjoyed the first 2 films, and really enjoyed the story of this S3.

If you didnt like the film thats fine, but dont try to explain away your dislike for the film by generalising in such a way. It makes you come off as an idiot.
