The E3 thread

MGS4, as relevant to the upcoming E3 trailer.

To throw this in from Murata's old blog

- Original TGS trailer was only intended to be 10 seconds long. It was to show Snakes new model. It was just him standing up with his bandana waving in the wind.
- Kojima decided while putting that trailer together that he wanted to include alot more and so the trailer went from 10 seconds to 9 minutes.
- Otacon's final model differs greatly from his TGS model.
- Textures were a rush job to get completed.

Essentially everything you saw in the trailer aside from Snake was them rushing to get something together by that time. Which isn't all that surprising since Kojima later admitted to EGM that during the process they didn't have enough time to include civilians in the trailer. So you can pretty much expect the E3 trailer to look alot different from what we've got now.

Where, When, and How much is it for E3?

We probably won't. Itagaki's currently overseeing DOAX2, Code Chronus and Project Progressive. Ninja Gaiden 2 is dead-last on his priority list. :(

I want it so bad... I love NG... :(

You have to work in the industry, but everything from E3 is hosted up by the power of the internets.

'G4TV' IS THE BEST WAY TO SEE 'E3'. I GET TO SEE THE TRAILERS AND GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE ON MY BIGSCREEN.

A seiyū (voice actor) recording session for E3 was discussed in a (somewhat) recent HideChan Radio entry. Several regular MGS voice actors were called in:
hidechan42_01.jpg

From left to right:
- Campbell (Takeshi Aono)
- Otacon (Hideyuki Tanaka)
- Meryl (Kyôko Terase)
- Liquid (Banjô Ginga)
- Hideo Kojima
- Naomi (Hiromi Tsuru)
- Snake (Akio Ôtsuka)
- Raiden (Kenyû Horiuchi)

In the entry, Akio Ôtsuka delivers the following line of dialogue as Solid Snake:

"The face of war has changed. It moved from a policy of determent to all-out control, and with this, the threat from weapons of mass destruction disappeared. The control of the battlefield also meant the control of history. The face of war has changed. With the control of the battlefield, war became eternal."

Holy ****. We may see the whole damn group .

That quote of Snake sounds corny and redundant.

Well, so long as the game is good.

Well, the MGS series' dialogue and storyline did have a tendency to veer off into the "B-movie bad" territory from time to time, so it's not exactly anything new. :o

Wow, really? I liked the quote.

The only reason it sounds redundant with the whole "the face of war has changed" bit is because it's technically two quotes fused together. The blog went like this:

"The face of war has changed. It moved from a policy of determent to all-out control, and with this, the threat from weapons of mass destruction disappeared. The control of the battlefield also meant the control of history."

*Insert Radio Show*

"The face of war has changed. With the control of the battlefield, war became eternal."

Listen to the beginning and end of the radio show. The way it's delivered is very good.

Why would they change Otacon's model? The one in the TGS trailer was perfect.

If anything, Snake's is the one that could use some minor tweaking. I never hear anyone complaining about Otacon. It's Snake who constantly gets remarks like "He's too old," "They should make him younger," "He needs a beard," "The moustache is teh ghey."

They need to make the textures better. And for god sake, put a real lighting model in.

The delivery might be good, but the lines are bleh.

"With the control of the battlefield, war became eternal"? If that isn't the very ideal example of cheesy dialogue, then I don't know what is.

"The control of the battlefield also meant the control of history."
Sounds like another one of those attempts at conjuring conceited philosophical babble that has no real meaning and is just written to sound smart and self-important. You know, the kind of garbage spewed out in the Matrix sequels and the finale of MGS2.

Looks like Kojima is at it yet again.:rolleyes:

Here's hoping there's someone to yank his chain before he goes overboard once more.

I think the game that had the most relevant writing was Deus Ex. Too bad that'll never get a third installment. :(

Damn right. Otacon looks great. It's Snake who desperately needs a makeover. Give him grey hair, sure, just don't make him grandpa so he doesn't look out of place in the game as if he belongs in a wheelchair and not a warzone. Trim the bloody moustache and bring back the beard dammit. The whole "pornstar Snake" idea is ******ed and is like a rabid dog out of control that immediately needs to be put to an end.

Yeah, some of the dialogue in that game was amazing. I need to play it again.

Me too. And in my quest for all things Ion, I'm actually looking to get a copy of Diakatana. :(

I had Anachronox on this PC, but since I've had my new GFXcard it's been unable to work. :(

You should definitely try Clive Barker's Undying. That game also has some of the smartest, most mature dialogue ever written for a game. Even the voice acting is amazingly professional. Add to that, Bill Brown's chilling score and you have a real aural treat.

I keep hearing about that game, I guess I'll have to find it somewhere. Maybe there's a copy in the "Pit of Despair" at my local EB, where old games go in but are never found.

This E3 in my opinion should be renamed to PS3 because from sources like my official Playstation Magazine this event is where Sony really plans on hitting the public hard with the PS3's information. Supposedly they will have a ton of playable demos like Resistance and possibly the Darkness hopefully. They plan on telling everything from the price range and showing some new things that no ones ever seen making everything prior to what they have showed us "Childs Play" Starbreeze said the PS3 has very mature software and we'll be sure to see that at E3.

Make it stop.

Yeah, as if both Microsoft and Nintendo will have booths at E3 holding their penises in their hands with nothing else to show.

Oh and let's not forget the PC and DX10 now, shall we?

Never heard of 'em.

They plan on telling everything from the price range...

Something people were expecting at previous year's E3.

Dude I know they are going to put some stuff out but usually all they do is just bring games to the table. Here Sony is going to release a **** load of information and show a ton of games like Resistance and Darkness and if you haven't heard of these titles then obviously you don't like the PS3 because these titles are kind of big.

Uh, Nintendo is going to release "a **** load of information" regarding the Revolution and have playable demos on the show floor as well. The PS3 is long overdue for releasing specs and price info and much of the excitement surrounding the console that was present last year has faded away. It's no more "OMG Sony is going to announce the PS3 at E3!!". It's more like "Sony's going to reveal PS3 price and specs at E3? OK, let's just get it over with".

Oh and the PS3 has far bigger titles than Resistance and Darkness.
