Earth tremor felt across England

People from across large parts of England have reported an earth tremor. The BBC has received calls from people in Yorkshire, the West Midlands, Manchester, Berkshire, London and Gloucestershire about a "quake".
The tremor could be felt in central Birmingham at about 0100 GMT but it is unclear if it has caused any damage.
The US Geological Survey's website reported a quake of the magnitude of 4.7 and said the epicentre was 30 miles (50km) south of Kingston-upon-Hull.
The West Midlands was hit by an earthquake in 2002 in the Dudley area that reached a magnitude of 5.0 and caused damage to homes.

Jemma Harrison, 22, in Bury, Greater Manchester, said: "It was really bad. I was fast asleep and woke up and the room was shaking and there was a loud bang and alarms were going off."
Natasha Cavey, in Tipton in the West Midlands, said: "All my cupboard doors flew open and the whole house shook, it was unreal. I can't believe it."
David Somerset, 41, from Driffield near Beverley in East Yorkshire, said: "I have never felt one as strong as that one before. I was in my sitting room and the grandfather clock was rattling rather violently
.

"It was very strong, I felt the whole room moving."

Felt nuthin down here in Essex... Any UK hypers have the earth move for them?

Wow a 4.7 damm, did anything major get destroyed?

I've been in a 6.7 before, but I'm bad at reading that scale so I'm not sure what a 4.7 is comparatively. I hope everyone is alright!

I've heard a report about a Church stained glass window falling out of it's frame....

Here's something strange, Listening to a lady on the radio right now form the town that i'm in.

She felt it and i didn't..... strange:huh:

Apparently it's gone up to a 5.1 and the epicenter has moved to Grimsby....

4.7....big whoop. That's like a slap on the behind I used to get from my grade school nurse. I still have nightmares....

And now it's a 5.3....

Any advance on 5.3?

it made my bed shake end to end. and it made a noise outside or from my window that was fairly ominous.

I'm down London and felt nothing. Damn Torchwood to blame I bet.

Was more startled by my girlfriend who woke up and started having a panic attack.

Immediately went to find out what was going on on BBC News 24. Updated every 10 minutes my arse, there was nothing about the quake til I got up this morning.

I was just falling asleep at my desk (still logged on to the hype :o) when stuff started to shake.

I am in London and I felt it, it was around 1am and I was at my desk and suddenly I felt the floor shake for about 10 seconds. It was small but I felt like someone was shaking me. Nothing fell or got damaged and neither did anything on the streets.
