The effects of Krypton's red sun on humans?

Are we all forgetting one important superman arc. The human zod who gained powers from the red son. In that arc he turned the sun red and so he was superman on earth without his suit. Normal humans were just fine. No cancer and no feeling sick. Plants still lived and etc. They were fine and normal. Red sun is simply red sun. Red suns are just mature stars( on supermans planet, life sprung during the time the sun turned red). Also like someone earlier said, non power kryptonians on earth are "human". If gravity was an issue in the post crisis world, clark would be able to leap tall buildings under a red son earth. Also kryptonite is radioactive. Common everyday items are radioactive, but very very low to the point you would need excessive amounts to give you an itch. Kryptonite gives off radiation similar to irradiated soil 20 years after.

Now that I'm thinking about it, since Superman gets all of his powers from solar energy, why does a red sun drain it all so quickly? I mean, yeah, he's getting less energy, but he's still getting it.
