The Eggs Of Watchmen

Nite Owl I saving Bruce Wayne's Parents in the opening credits.

Look closely. Thomas, Martha and what appears to be Alfred. Look at the posters in the background as well.

My, my. She's even wearing pearls.

i think the message here is that Batamn is fictional (hence the showing of posters) and that nite owl is doing the real thing . i don't think he is preventing the wayne's death although that would of been a really cool concept but then they'd have to figure out a way to write off superman.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned Friday the 13th on one of Veidt's screens.

I don't think it IS, but it is FUN to think it is.

I think it's definatley an intentional homage. I mean, they're not trying to say that Nite Owl specifically prevented Batman's existence, since he's a fictional character in the world, but it's definatley no coincidence that those people look like the Waynes.

Also, regarding the Gotham Opera House, you guys do realize that the word Gotham wasn't invented by Batman comics, right? Gotham is often another name for New York City.

I don't know if it was said yet but during the riots the rioters were beating a Superman dummy which was been hung

Anyone know if Snyder is a Scarface fan? :hehe:

When the thug chops off the guys arms in the prison I totally got that Scarface '83 vibe to it with the blood splattering on the walls and the twitching of Rorschach staring right at it.

Did the Gordian Knot lock company get an egg in the film? I was looking for it, didn't see it. Was really disappointed. But then I read a set report that the company was part of one of the sets, so now I'm wondering. I managed to miss "Boys", maybe I missed this too?

EDIT: already posted

Hollis Mason is saving a couple at the Gotham Opera House (Batman poster in the background) Guess who?

I thought of that too, but then it made no sense to have the batman posters in the background as well...If they left out the posters it would no doubt have been the Wayne's he was saving but there's a contradiction in there if it is them

Also, when Nite Owl spreads his wings in one scene is so reminiscent of the ending to Batman Begins

I think the Batman poster in the background is a heads up for people to look closer to their surroundings. Like they want people to know its Batman's parents in the background.

That's exactly what I got out of it.

That the posters are there as an inside joke AND a hint that the couple and the old guy in the background aren't just random people going to the theatre.

At the same time it's not trying to say The Waynes actually exist in the world of Watchmen really, just a fun nod to comic fans.

The thread title is hilariously depraved. Especially coming from the infamous Firm18.

Same here.

The Gordian Knot Lock Company wasn't mentioned or seen as far as I can tell, but they did bother to mention that Dan had just had a new lock installed when Laurie arrived. I'm sure they installed it. :).

dont know if already mentioned but when vedits talking to those guys right before he gets shot at you can see a giant pink elephant that says gunga diner. This may sound stupid but maybe a Dumbo, that little kids book flying elephant i think his name is dumbo, reference?

Not so much.

That's the Gunga Diner mastodon blimp.

Gunga Din is a Rudyard Kipling work.

There's a line at the end of the comic book where Veidt is speechifying at Karnak, talking about Blake's reaction to learning his plan, and Veidt says "The brutal world he'd relished would cease to be, it's fierce and brawling denizens rushing to join the mastodon in obsolecence...in extinction"...and the mastodon goes floating through New York as a juxtaposed image.

The movie has a nod to this, when Veidt talks about making war obsolete...and the blimp floats past.

Ahh ty, was stupid I know but I did think it was kinda cool seeing that Dan and Luarie ate there once or twice.

P.S. To whoever posted about the boys thread, I used the material for my Ozumandias quote in my sig, thanks!

See, I knew I wasn't the only one who noticed that. Very clever. I need to see this movie again.

Ohhhh, see? I didn't know what the original reference was. Alan Moore is nuts, but he's an awesome kind of nuts. :funny:

I love these eggs is there a DK one?
You mean this?

When Rorschach is being captured by the SWAT team, after he jumps out the window, I liked hearing one of the cops say "god he stinks!"

I liked that they mentioned at least once that he smells bad.
