So I was watching this again late night not too long ago. When the priest throws fake holy water over Regen, she reacts violently and he seems to believe it's something Phycological. Then when he listens to the tape of the backwards talking he seems to react oddly. Why is this? Is there something on it said regarding the holy water during the the backward rant?

Well, I think that the fact that there's a message heard is creepy in itself. I assume he's reacting odd because it was pretty scary. I haven't seen the movie in a while, but that would be my guess.

I dont remember the movie too well, but maybe the priest didnt believe she was possessed and having an adverse reaction to normal water confirmed his belief that whatever was happening was psychological problem. That is until he heard the weird tape.

Coming to Blu-ray later this year.

One of the best films - wether you like Horror or not.

It's unsettling in parts, but sadly it can't live up to the legends. When you watch a film that has supposedly been terrifying people for almost forty years, inevitably it can't live up to that.

I don't find many films scary, but I saw The Strangers recently and that's definetly on the list. Minimalist, Hitchcock-style pure suspense.

It's not scary and never was, it was just well-made. It's big rep is predicated on the fact that a lot of people who had never seen a horror film went to see it. Remember, at that time genres and theaters were more segregated and horror/exploitation movies were strictly B films. Rosemary's Baby which is sort of it's immediate predecessor in A-list horror films is better, and Hammer's The Devil Rides Out (a B movie of course) is better than either of those, IMO. That's not to ignore it's well deserved spot, however...there is some really memorable stuff in it and it led to a huge period of success for horror.

i don't know about that, i've sat down and watched this movie with people in their 20's who get damn near catatonic with fear

It's both scary and well-made, two things that rarely go together in horror movies anymore. I actually thought the book was even scarier, especially one scene that wasn't in the movie where Reagan ran screaming down the hall claiming Captain Howdy was chasing her, and then fell to the floor, clearly being kicked and punched by something no one else could see. :wow:

Guess it just depends on the person. Seeing a girl possessed doesn't scare me. I'm more scared by suspense, such as Psycho or the first Halloween. Even though the Exorcist doesn't scare me, I will say it's very well-made and a great film in general.

I havent read the book, but i'm definitely reading it now :awesome:

I love this movie. I'm not easily scared, but it's very creepy at times, so it's held up well with me over time.I still enjoy it. My older sis cant watch this movie without totally freakin' out when Regan starts making noises :hehe:

I believe he heard Regen speaking a language she couldn't possibly have known and that's what alarmed him.

Regan's possessed voice still scares the **** out of me. And, as far as I'm concerned, Damian Karras' death is one of the most epic film deaths I've ever seen.

Yeah, I got to the point where she pissed herself... then I shut it off.

When I was younger my brother used to tell me Regan would come into my bedroom at night and try to kill me.:csad:
