How many of you have a job / got a job because you were related to someone running the business or because it's the job someone in your family had and it inspired you to do the same?

In my family the answer is zero. My folks were blue collar workers and we didn't want to do what they did for a living.

REading the title, I thought this thread was going to be about some ole gangster sh**

But to answer your question noi never got a job because I knew a family member. Ive considered being a teacher like my father, but I have since switched my profession choice

Father was career AF then went civil service. I followed suit...career AF, now a Defense Contractor.

I did things my own way. I don't care to have people try to tell me what to do with my life. Luckily my parents weren't like this and I didn't have the pressure to go into a certain field.

My father owns a construction company...and for years forced me to work there so that one day I could take over the family business.

I saved up money, and as soon as I was old enough to leave, I did...and started my own business that had nothing to do with construction.

My brothers and I started up a company together. Sadly, we let the (middle) brother go for "indifferences." Working with family can put a real strain on your relationship, and it affects work as well.

Currently the company has branched out into two seperate companies now. I'm my own brothers rival company, and it really sucks.

If anyone else is thinking about doing something with the family, I would strongly suggest writing out a contract first and pushing hard for communication.

We have three family businesses, one of which has been sold.

Ma owned a dance studio, and sold the rights to the name and her clients/students. The family still owns the land, and reserves the right to sell at anytime.

Pop owns around five houses, an apartment, and a duplex - Storm Reality - and plays slumlord.

My brother owns Blackbox Operations, a software company, of which I will be working for in few weeks.

Kelly had the chance to take over Ma's place, he danced most of his life; but he wanted to do his own thing, considering he has a PhD in Computer Science. Storm Reality is sort of understood. We don't have to be trained or be there day to day; Dad just wants us to take over when he retires in a few years.
