It's been on my mind since the big revelation about Eobard Thawne saying he's a distant relative of Eddie.
Is Eobard the first person to call himself Reverse Flash or could through some freaky chain of events Eddie gets powers and calls himself Reverse Flash as a villain? Could it be possible there could be some kind of family feud Eddie and Barry's families in the future?

I doubt it. Eddie is probably exactly what he seems to be: a good cop with terrible luck in his love life.

I hope Eddie becomes the new Reverse Flash after they finish Dr Wells/ Eobard Thawne story.

The more the story progress, the less I believe that Eddie will become a RF someday, and the more I believe that he will be the show Cobalt Blue (becoming probably the main villain for the season 2 or 3 That's probably the reason of his actual arc).

A guy who wasn't a sociopath like his grand grand grand.... grandson Eobard, but a former good guy burned by his hatred against Barry (who will someday be revealed as his long lost brother). In the comic, Malcolm Thawne / Cobalt Blue was the first Thawne to declare a 1000 years war against the Allen family after discovering that his long lost twin, Barry Allen, has everything he dreamed to have. He mastered the blue flame, a power that allowed him to steal anything he wanted, like the Flash speed force. And he was the direct ancestor of Eobard Thawne. Isn't it somewhat similar to Eddie story ?

And you can't deny that he looks a lot like John Wesley Shipp, and has blue eyes like him... or Barry !

Plus Eddie wears a lot of blue, and the character seems to be associated with this colour. Look at the last scene of the last episode.... Behind Eobard Thawne, the wall and the light is yellow to red/ orange, similar to the color of his costume. It makes like an aura. And look at the colour behind Eddie... It's again blue !

I could see Eddie becoming Cobalt Blue, but his origin would need a major rework to fit the show. It's a take it or leave it for me.

Eddie will definitely be Cobalt Blue. I'm just wondering if he already knows he's Barry's twin brother, or if Eobard Thawne is going to reveal it to him.

I don't know. After the Grodd ep, it really seems that Wells is doing for Eddie what he did for Barry.

He's basically cut him off from everyone and telling him about his future. Toughening him up to hate Barry and Iris. Whatever gets Eobard back involves getting Eddie some kind of speed force.

Of course he is doing for Eddie (helping him to reach his full potential and fate), but that doesn't mean that Eddie has to be linked to the speed force.

If Eddie is Malcolm Thawne / Cobalt Blue, a villain not linked to the speedforce, then what Eobard Thawne did to him is pretty logical :

Malcolm Thawne is supposed to be "the first Thawne, the birth of the evil branch of the family". Eobard said that, for every "past" people he met, he improved their life. What if, in the original timeline, Eddie wasn't the brillant cop, but the simple janitor of the police station (like Malcolm Thawne in the comics)

By improving Eddie's life, Eobard has put his birth in jeopardy, if Eddie is now happy and will marry a woman (Iris) that is not Eobard ancestor. He so wouldn't have any reason to become a villain but, worst, Eobard won't be conceived. It's as dangerous for him as Eddie getting killed now.

So Eobard has to "correct" this. For the first time (I may be wrong, but that's an impression), I had the feeling that Eobard lied or hide something when he said "you're a failure and the only forgotten Thawne". When he spoke to Cisco "before his death" or in the last episode with Eddie, Eobard seemed totally honest with his revelation about the future. I had the feeling that it wasn't the case this time. (Awesome acting from Tom Cavanaugh if I'm not mistaken)

By revealing that Eddie "is a failure who won't marry Iris", he not only insure his own birth, but, if Eddie is Malcolm Thawne / Cobalt Blue, he also push him to the "right" direction of his destiny, insuring his future villainy, but he also give him Malcolm greatest power in the comic : The jealousy against Barry that trigger his blue flame. like Eobard always says : "A mean to an end". He is probably not happy to do this to Eddie, but he needs to do it.

I have a new theory:

Cobalt Blue will appear at some point, and he will be a major villain, if not the big bad for a future season (season 3?). However, he will not be Barry's brother...but Eddie's. In the original timeline that Eobard Thawne is from, Edward Thawne was a superhero and close ally of the Flash, Barry Allen. In the altered timeline, Eddie never became a superhero for whatever reason. However, Eobard is still concerned about the possibility, so he locks up Eddie to keep this from happening. At some point, Eobard will manipulate events into leading to Eddie's death, and make it appear that the Flash was responsible. This will lead to Eddie's brother and Eobard's true ancestor, Malcolm Thawne, becoming Cobalt Blue to get revenge on the Flash, and spark off the blood feud between the evil Thawne family and the heroic West-Allen family. Yes, I know they already sort of did this with the Weather Wizard, and the Raimi-MacGuire Spider-Man movies also did this with Harry, but it's the only way I could think of that would get rid of Eddie, allow him to remain a good guy, and still get a Cobalt Blue at some point.

It would take a rework but this show has already reworked Grodd's origin, I doubt it would balk at reworking Cobalt Blue's origin.

Knowing Eobard he has contingency plans for his contingency plans and he would do anything to guarantee his existence, maybe Eddie becoming Cobalt Blue is a part of that. There's a chance he already planted the seeds for Eddie to become that villain hence his 'insurance'. Also in the Flash finale there's a strange ring, or talisman, around his neck.
You think if Eobard knew Eddie and Barry were brothers or related in some way he would rub it in.

I agree! I wouldn't be too upset either with them changing Cobalt Blue's background, Eddie has the more important elements of the character (potentially beginning the Thawne Dynasty, personal relationship with Barry Allen) that I think would fit for Cobalt Blue even if he doesn't wind up being a long lost twin of Barry's.

Like you said, changing Grodd's origin to being a lab monkey worked for the show and even though its a bummer we might not see Gorilla City or the other gorilla characters, it doesn't really effect the overall Grodd character that much

What if Eddie eventually has a son called Malcom and he's a villain to either Wally West or Bart Allen in the future?

How? He's dead, remember? And if you're going to resurrect him, might as well make Eddie himself Cobalt Blue.

Eddie's death is a paradox. One that should eliminate the timeline. Barry and co. may likely have to spend much of season 2 fixing the timeline. I don't think Eddie's death will necessarily stick and if it does there's always the possibility of alternate versions of him from other timelines in the Flash's travels. If Eddie does come back then I would have a hard time seeing him as a villain since it would be completely at odds with his character arc and ultimate sacrifice in season 1.

If he was Cobalt Blue and a good guy then I wouldn't mind though. I think he could make an interesting addition to team Flash like Arrow had Arsenal and Black Canary.

I think it would be ballsy if Eddie doesn't end up bad and perhaps becomes another heroic speedster. Bart Allen is a Thawne as well. Maybe Eddie could live in the future?
