Taking inspiration from the basic Mary Shelley mythology of a man brought back to life by scientists playing god, The Frankenstein Code, written/executive produced by Crisis and Life creator Rand Ravich, centers on Jimmy Pritchard (Rob Kazinsky), a morally corrupt retired cop given a second chance at life when he is brought back from the dead. Now younger and stronger, Pritchard will have to choose between his old temptations and his new sense of purpose. Dilshad Vadsaria, Adhir Kalyan, Tim DeKay and Ciara Bravo co-star.

Described as a grounded sci-fi drama, Frankenstein had a lot going for it, bringing Gordon back to his genre roots of The X-Files, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel and teaming him with Ravich and Michael Cuesta who came on board to direct and executive produce. This marks the latest pilot helmed by Cuesta to go to series, joining Homeland, executive produced by Gordon, as well as Dexter, Blue Bloods and Elementary.

Don't love the new title they gave it, and iffy about the premise, but I trust Howard Gordon, there's potential and Rob Kazinsky is :atp:

I'm kinda meh on this, but I'll give the first couple of eps a chance...

I like Kazinsky so I'll watch but I don't see it lasting long.

Another one that merely looks ok, the lead seems a little stiff but I get that he's meant to be with him being a modern Frankenstein. Hopefully Dekay's part is pretty big as he can elevate this.

On first look I thought his badge read, "LOOKING ASS". lol

The changing of the title of the show, twice, is my opinion, not a good sign. And Second Chance sounds less appealing than the previous titles. When I saw Fox's winter schedule, I thought it was a new reality show.

other titles under consideration:

Weekend At Frankenstein's
Good Cop, Dead Cop
Grave Danger
The Cop Who Was Brought Back Like Frankensteins Monster Except Modern Day and He's a Cop
Frankencop
Copenstein
Third Chance
Fourth Chance
Please Give This Show a Chance

I would say the thread title needs updating to the new series name but that might change tomorrow...

I don't think it will get a new title, that will be much too much.

I thought this might be mildly interesting, but after seeing that pilot... naahhh, I don't think so... if a better ABC show like Forever ends up getting cancelled after one season, this CERTAINLY ain't gonna make it past a first season, either... can you smell cancellation, too?

Honestly, I doubt that anyone aware of this show wasn't smelling a cancellation between the meh look of the trailer, the midseason timeslot and the fifty million title changes.

I'll hold out more hope for Lucifer.
Second Chance is such an awful on the nose title. It doesn't exactly inspire me to check it out like the other two titles might have.

The whole thing has been such a rollercoaster...

Pilot gets picked up, titled Frankenstein
"Oh, alright. It probably won't be a straight adaptation, but--"
Pilot gets series order, now titled The Frankenstein Code
"Uhhh... okay. Looks pretty cheesy, tho--"
Series gets retitled Lookinglass
"..... should that really be one word? Does no one realize that looks stu--"
Series gets retitled Second Chance
"Oh, so it's a self-help reality show on Lifetime now. Cool. Cool."

:funny:

Could be wrong, but those title changes seem like the sort of thing that would happen if Fox was listening to focus groups. It was either a mess they didn't know how to sell, or they made it a mess trying to fix what they and the focus groups thought was a mess.

Probably. I do think trying to sell this as Frankenstein-related would've been disingenuous, just from watching the trailer/promos. Putting a dead/dying old man's mind into a young guy's body =/= Frankenstein.

The pre aired pilot was OK, the only relation to Frankenstein is to bring back a dead body, there is no patchwork creature, no mad scientist, no playing God stuff.
I don't think this show will last long.

It has me wondering if the creator read the book Old Man's War where they literally do this same thing, only the body is a re-engineered clone built for military purposes in space.

Not watched the pilot yet but I'm not expecting the series to make it very far so I don't see why I should either.

thanks james for linking to this thread

I tried recording second chance last might but fox aired hells kitchen
