I've heard that excuse countless times and it doesn't get anymore valid. Believing in something never is harmless. People who fixate on the afterlife don't appreciate the life that they have here. :cwink:

I agree with that entirely, and I actually do believe in an afterlife.

I like Maximum Carnage's thinking, Krittish i'd give up if i were you MC seems more intelegent than us all

Doubtful, but thanks.

Some yes, but that is there own problem. How about those people that realize that is no after life, & just sit around waiting to die. Because they don't think there is a purpose? The road goes both ways my friend.

No, it rarely just affects their lifestyle. Also, from my experience people who don't believe in an afterlife live their lives to the fullest. Don't confuse atheist with goths. :cwink:

Fine you got me I don't know the correct use of their. You know what I meant, & that is all that should matter.

Anyway, not all atheists have a awakening. Some go in to a deep depression, & just wait to die. Not all religious people are killing abortion dr. Most are just trying to find comfort, & peace in their own mortality.

I don't think most religious people are trying to find comfort and peace in their mortality. Alot of people say that the reason for religion, for a belief in God or some other kind of higher power or order or meaning, stems from a fear of death. Of a need for some kind of afterlife. And while it is a reason, I don't think it's the only reason, or the most important one. Another reason, which I think as just as much if not more bearing on the matter, is simply the fact that most people don't like the answer "just because." I mean, everyone hated it when we got that answer as children, and many still hate it today. We ask ourselves stuff like "why are we here?" and if we get the answer of "just because," we don't like it. First off, it hardly saciates the curiosity. Most people, at least starting off, will think "there's got to be more to it than that." Secondly, "just because" is a little disheartening. It's very depressing and disturbing to a child that there's no reason in particular why they have to go to school or why they have to eat greenbeans or why daddy's car is red or why mommy has to go to work. People like reasons, to put it simply. And thus, it is even more depressing and disturbing to think that there is no reason in particular why we are alive. "I'm here "just because?" The planet and the universe and the ecosystem and the laws of physics and all of that stuff exist "just because?" Well, that's damn stupid, isn't it?" People like the idea of worlds beyond and powers above our understanding because A) it makes our lives and our world and our works and our everything seem less pointless and random, and B) it gives us something to hope for. I don't mean in an afterlife (although that is also a way to look at it), but hope for those forces and worlds and beings and whatever to one day, maybe, no matter how unlikely it is even if they do exist, to come into our lives and make them something special and great and worth remembering and talking about. Because the two things that many people find scarier that death are meaninglesness, and mediocrity.

One of the most famous ghost photos of all time...

The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall

This one scares me just looking at it...it's either a ghost in the backseat or my avatar.

This photo was taken in 1959 by Mrs. Mabel Chimney in a British churchyard.
She had just finished photographing her mother’s grave and then took a picture of her husband, who was waiting for her in the car. He was alone in the auto at thattime, yet the developed photograph clearly showed Mrs. Chimney’s mother in the back seat of the car. A photo expert examined it for a British newspaper and declared the photo to be authentic. In fact, he went as far as to declare, “I stake my reputation on the fact that this picture is genuine,” he said.

heh. you can feel them sometimes. its not suggesting a magical thing . its quite negative.
