I'm just wondering if The Grey Ghost TV show's title character, and Bruce's attachment to that character, has appeared in the comics (before or after B:TAS)? Also, is the show in B:TAS in any way supposed to be related to the the old, real TV show by the same name?

i have a batman comic book we a little boy is a big batman fanatic he has action figures of batman, robin, and the grey ghost that's the only time i can remember

Basically, he was the replacement for Zorro.

Everything Bruce felt for Ghost, growing up as a kid watching him, being a huge fanboy of that character (I mean, ****ing hardcore....he had that huge collection in the cave) was basically how it's been suggested he feels about Zorro. I guess it's one of those childhood hero things that has stuck with him.

I thought it was cool that Adam West did the Grey Ghosts' voice. Nice little paycheck for him.

how they used him in the animated series actually sort of reminded me of Nightshade in the 90's Flash live action series...

Yeah. Grey Ghost seamed like a replacement for Zorro (probably because Timm and Dini couldn't get the rights to mention the character). Bruce has shown many times that he's a big fan of the Zorro books and movies. Although, Dark Knight Returns suggests that he can't really watch the origional film without thinking about his parents, so he doesn't watch it often.

That was the second episode I watched when I bought the boxset. It is amazing how much it had stuck with me all this time.

The Grey Ghost was not a replacement of Zorro he is meant to be The Shadow who Batman was based off of. Not Zorro and it is really some what based off of one of The Batman comics where The Shadow came and helped him out with a case.

But, Zorro was Bruce's childhood hero. Not the Shadow. The Gre Ghost was menat to replace Zorro's function in the bat mythos.

in the comics it was The Shadow who Batman looked up to and I felt that one show was based off the comic where Batman and The Shadow worked together to sovle a case and at the end he kind of gave him the same speech.

No, it's actually Zorro. There's numerous stories where Zorro is mentioned.

I remember a LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT tale where Bruce mentioned to Alfred (after acting like a flamboyant a-hole with the press), that it's an act to keep people away from the truth, something Zorro would do.

To which Alfred kinda smirked, "Your taking lessons from a fictional character, sir?"

So, in terms of who Bruce looked up to....the BTAS replaced Zorro with Grey Ghost. Bruce was a Zorro fanboy. Don't think I've ever heard heard of him being a Shadow fanboy, but I am aware of the inspiration he's taken from him- although I don't think it's as much as he took from Zorro. But, things might have changed since most people might not know who the Shadow is anymore.

Yeah, that was definately one of my favorite episodes. :)

It was a classic....the writing in that episode was well done. Comparing the original animated series from 1992 to "The Batman" is like comparing a Lexus to a Saturn...lol.

Or.......meh to ****ING INCREDIBLE.

The Batman isn't all that bad.....it's just that BTAS is ****ing kinf of all.

I still have that comic and it did not read exactly like that to me. Although it does appear that batman had great respect for the shadows ability as a detective but he did not seem to have the hero worship that TAS batman had for the gray ghost however comic book batman did have a hero worship thing goin on for zoro. And the speech given to the shadow was more a motivation thing to get him to come out of retirement. And to answer one of the first questions in an episode of batman beyond Bruce Wayne dons the gray ghost costume to help fight ink in the bat cave.

I prefer Gray Ghost to Zorro. And I think Beware the Gray Ghost is the greatest episode of television ever.
