Check out Shattered Glass if you haven’t. He completely destroyed my opinion of him in the best way.

Yeah, I don't know why exactly but SW fans DO seem to be impossible to please. And don't get me wrong, I LOVE the original trilogy, but I'm also not blind to its flaws. What I find weird about a lot of the diehards though is that a lot of them seem to act like these new films are SO much worse than the prequels. And look, people can like what they like, but just speaking objectively (if that's possible, and admittedly, it might not be) the prequels are just straight-up BAD movies. They might have some good moments here and there like the lightsaber duels and all that but if ANYTHING sucked the life out of Star Wars, it was those movies. But I guess since George Lucas made them, those people have been duped into thinking they're not that bad? I don't know.
I don’t think that’s die hard fans. It’s often turned out to be younger fans who watched the prequels first.

Is there any way to make this line work? Haha. Could Daniel Day Lewis have done something with this?

The original cast had just the same kind of banal dialogue, just Harrison Ford changed his or Mark Hamilton convinced Lucas to cut some of his.

Christensen is only as good as his material ie Channing Tatum. See also Jumper which he’s also bad in.

Those poor souls.

Give Tom Hardy his contractually obligated stupid ass accent and he can make any line work.

Hardy: (Bane voice): Arrrr durrrrnt lurrrk SAANNNNRRDD. It's currrrsse! It's rrrorgh. Arnd IRRRRRITRRRTNNNG! ARND IRT GRTS EVRRRYWHARR!

Hardy: (Eddie Bwock voice): Ah dun like sand. It’s coase, wough, iwwitatin, and it gets evweewayuh.

The prequels start out iffy but get better as they go on. I'd watch them over the others. I just didn't agree with a lot of creative decisions in TLJ. It's not really a bad movie, but the least watchable.

I enjoyed the first two hobbit films but stretching it to 3 was a big big big mistakey. The romanace between kili and tauriel could have been left on the cutting room floor to be honest...i prefered her scenes with Legolas more. I would take the hobbit films over the prequels minus Rots...which Ive enjoyed. I'll take rots over most of the decision making for the third hobbit film and tlj.

I was pretty surprised that the 1977 Rankin Bass version of The Hobbit turned out to be a much more faithful adaptation than PJ's version, even thought the RB version had blue elves and a Gollum who looked like a frog.

The Hobbit movies were about being Hobbit movies. The Star Wars prequels were about being Star Wars movies. TLJ, for all it’s fault, is about more than just being a Star Wars film. It’s about failure, and acceptance of failure

The Hobbit movies are an example of how bloat can be a critical problem even with great talent across the board and generally good execution throughout. Still enjoyable, but definitely bloated.

The Prequels show how, even if you botch the execution with a romance, you can still contribute to a genuinely good story with a bad film by making sure the plot works and key characterizations made consistent. AOTC is bad... and yet didn’t slow down any of ROTS’s momentum, helped set up the Clone Wars, and is worth the cost in exchange for TPM (whose reputation is far worse than the actual quality of the film) and ROTS (which *is* actually a good movie, and a good example of how Space opera has some edges over regular science fiction.) Genuine adventure, and two great films? Check. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

The Last Jedi is a hipster’s Star Wars commentary butchering otherwise excellent execution with an abysmal plot, horrible characterizations for all new characters, a misuse of Luke *at best,* a master class in how to bring an overarching story’s plot to a grinding halt, a general display of how more pretentious film critics are addicted to melodramatic man-pain for white dudes no matter how poorly they’re plotted if an actor wobbles his lip hard enough... and hopefully Rian Johnson’s one bad movie for his career. It’s *exactly* as derivative as The Force Awakens before it, but has no real heart, is high off it’s own farts, and basically required ditching most of its points for the setup in the next film because of its bad plotting.

TLJ has a really big heart at its core IMO, which is what makes it work for me and a lot of people.

Also, circa-1970s George Lucas is pretty much the OG hipster, in terms of being a rebel in the Hollywood system, and taking something unabashedly retro and making it cool and modern. The guy is still talking about going and making experimental films that he won't show anyone but a few people. That is peak hipster. :funny:

I have to go with The Last Jedi. Im a prequel fan and defender, ill make that clear, and im a fan of hayden, which Ive actually met. but there's no denying that they are just not great movies and have poor execution. The Last Jedi, while divisive to Star Wars fans, is still a good film on its own. Incredible performances and action. You can argue about Lukes portayal and such, but I personally really enjoyed his arc. most complaints about Luke are more about that he wasnt an OP god. I get why it can be jarring to see someone like Luke be so disgruntled, but I felt it was more natural than him being a god. The Jedi were not perfect and Luke acknowledges that. I also dont mean to rag on those who prefer the prequels, and honestly I actually grew up with them. im 26, so i was a kid when they were released, but I dont let nostalgia cloud my judgment. The reasons for some people thinking the prequels are better never really make much sense to me. "lucas was trying to tell a story at least". my friends, EVERY director is trying to tell a story and I think a comment like that is an insult to other movie directors. Especially considering George Lucas, as much as i love the guy, did a lot in his power to change things about the OT for decades after their release. The same person who said that the empire strikes back is the worst star wars film.

its not a perfect film, and I think Force Awakens is better, but its still in my top 5 Star Wars films. So as a whole, The Last Jedi.

Yeah, that romance in the Hobbit movies just didn't work for me at all. It just felt like filler.

I'll take the SW prequels any day easily and that's just on the light sabre fights alone.

Had to go with the Hobbit because a sharp editor could make a legitimately great 3 hour movie out of that trilogy, they would just need to cut most of the side-plots and most of the last movie.

Then I would go with The Last Jedi because it has one really good hour of cinema within it but if you cut out all the stuff that doesn't really work, you are left with not a full, complete movie.

Last would be the SW prequels because while I appreciate the imagination behind them, in execution they are a stilted chore to watch with some embarrassingly bad moments at crucial times. And also it is just such a shame that such a great core story about Anakin's fall was so badly mishandled.

Star wars TLJ easily. Hobbit have never seen and dont want to. Star wars prequles while 1-2 are 2 of the worst movies i have ever seen before i do like 3 though. TLJ gets way more hate then it should and is a good movie and i am convinced that star war fans will complain no matter what.

I truly believe The Last Jedi will be a more respected movie years from now. It gets way way more hate than it deserves, an I think once TROS is out, those who didn't like TLJ may look at it differently.

The Last Jedi is the best movie on the list, but I'd take the prequels and Hobbit over it in terms of personal enjoyment.
