Keanu? That is the most awesome thing I have ever heard. :)
:woot: It was all about "Speed." Loved that movie and Keanu in it.

I don't think it is surprising. The first film has a lot of good will, so matching or surpassing it on a bigger, prettier scale is going to pull a TDK reaction.
It only has 23 reviews so far though so lets wait and see how it holds up.

I don't think I have watched a Keanu movie more. Not even the first Matrix. It was on television for a lot my youth. :D

True, but I don't expect a huge dip. The hype and goodwill looks strong, and while there will be plenty of negative reviews, I can't see it dipping under the high 80s at this point.

Don't count your chickens yet, that said it's definately off to a good start. The question is are the reviewers American or not? If recent trends are anything to go by the yanks tend to be a lot harsher with big budget movies.

I agree at this point I'd be surprised if it didn't stay in the 80's. There is a reason Lions Gate allowed reviews out this early.

You can tell where the reviewers are from. There are more then a few American.

It is pretty amazing that it is looking like these films will be saving Lionsgate. No wonder they wanted 4.

If that's the case then the film should be ok. What is it with American reviewers anyway? It's like the are the complete opposite of the international reviewers in how they look at a film.

True, but for some reason I was expecting it to get worse reviews than the 1st, simple because the surprise factor is gone. It still could go that way of course, but personally I like Lawrence as a director, so I always thought it would be good regardless.

LoL, 96% starting rating on RT. Impressive.

Opened very well in Brazil. The international gross is going to go up quite a bit. Could be looking at something close to a billion, though it is too early to say of course.

The estimates I've seen are at $1 billion or more which I can believe but you can never truly predict box office numbers accurately.

The movie is at 97% on Rotten Tomatoes with 29 reviews.

Boxoffice Mojo said that Catching Fire would have tripled The Hunger Games debut in Brazil if it weren't for the currency losing vaule so it sold 3 times more tickets than the first. I think it's going to at least double the 283mil the last film made overseas.

I'm still deciding on my opening weekend prediction here in the states. 165mil+ for sure though.

Well we can safely say its going to make a penny or two :cwink: The 1st movie was a huge success and this getting great reviews will only help the sequel be even more so.

Man at Arms makes Finnick's Trident. :D

So, I just got back from an advanced screening and all I can say is - HOLY CRAP.

In regards to action movies that came out this year that have compelling characters, great story, acting and still ups the action - this made Iron Man 3, Wolverine, Thor, and MOS look like chumps.

Jennifer Lawrence for all the movies please.

Thanks for that. Now I'm even more excited! :woot:

So happy that this is being well received. Jennifer Lawrence should be hearing (if she hasn't already) an offer of huge proportions form WB to become their Amazonian princess.

She's exactly what they're looking for in terms of financial security and an actress that can hand in an extraordinary performance. It'll cost them a pretty penny though.

Back to Catching Fire. This looks incredible beyond words. Excited to see Sutherland's performance too.

The fact that it may stay above 90% upon release is amazing.

Could WB do that with her contract with Fox?

Just saw it, I didn't like it despite it being better than the first one (no more Michael J Fox cameraman) and it's probably better than Battle Royale 2 :o . Apart from that, this film is pretty much paying lip service to the fans of the book; and if you're like myself ever forced to sit through it :oldrazz: , be ready for a long slog.

Reviews are great so far:

38 reviews 92% Avg 7.6

Obviously, Jennifer Lawrence commands this movie from start to finish, but Hutcherson is right there with her, and the supporting cast is awesome. Hemsworth as Gale is fine, it's not his acting though since he's great, it's just that character is pretty blah.

Loved Malone, Claflin, and Wright as Johanna, Finnick and BeeTee!

Glad you liked it SuperT. I was wonder if you could answer a question. How much screen time would you say Malone gets?

Hmm, that's hard to really gauge without seeing it again. At first thought, I want to say that it wasn't a lot, but it certainly wasn't very little either. She's very much a supporting character in this movie. I think she gets enough that is warranted for the character as I still left the movie understanding her character's emotions and mindset.

She does have one particularly awesome scene (she has a lot of these) in the arena where she just goes off the rails against President Snow that really shows how done with it all her character is.

From what I could gauge from the audience I saw it with - they loved her.

I doubt that would happen. I'm sure she has some sort of non-compete clause in her contract with Fox until she fulfills her three movie deal with them.
