The Hype Nutrition Thread

I'll have Subway every few days to mix it up and treat myself. Sometimes instead of just tuna in a pouch I get the kit w/ crackers. I have applesauce with my chicken and fish as well sometimes and it has plenty of carbs.

Try some oatmeal. It's an excellent complex carb. Good for cholesterol and helps keep enough fiber in your diet. Can also help with weight loss:

Brown rice and whole wheat pasta are also good complex carb sources.

Subway's bread has HFCS in it(I know, I was devastated when I found out). Crackers and applesauce are just the tip of the iceberg for your daily card needs. Are you purposefully trying to limit your carbs? If not, throw that tuna on 2 slices of whole wheat bread, eat your eggs with some oatmeal, eat your chicken and fish w/ some brown rice, etc.

I'm not counting carbs, just consciously limiting them. I should eat some oatmeal as well, I just rarely have the time to prepare it in the morning. The hardboiled eggs I just grab at the supermarket (usually grab enough for a week or so).

Eating right takes a little extra planning and effort, but it's well worth it. I would also recommend using a tool like fitday.com to track your caloric intake and macronutrient breakdown on a day to day basis. It's free and easy to use once you have it set up.

The best time to eat carbs is early on in the morning/afternoon since you'll have all day to burn them off.

Carbs = Energy. Carbs only = Fat if you eat spaghetti all day while watching Maury Povich lol. Atkins had his info wrong

I definitely don't subscribe to the Atkins School of Bull****. :cwink: I do need to plan my week out better when I have time to shop on Sundays.

When I tell you that High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) is the devil, I mean it. Not only does it not convert to energy in the body like a more readily bioavailable fructose or sugar but directly to fat, it's linked to obesity, early onset diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, inhibited testicular development in male children and a whole host of other health issues, some short-term and some long-term:

Aspartame is also another evil one. Read the labels of what you are eating. And then do some Googling on what those strange words really mean. The crap they put into our food supply is...well...crap.

I've actually been trying to go organic as possible, but some of that stuff is expensive. I must say though, that all the organic veggies I've gotten have been far far superior to their non-organic counterparts.

I cannot wait to get my first paycheck from work. The very first thing I'm going to do is buy ingredients for a HEALTHY cheeseburger. There's no reason why beef(lean), cheese, bread(whole wheat of course), lettuce, tomato, and onions should be bad for you.

I've made turkey burgers a few times recently and they were awesome. Might need a bit of turkey bacon next time.

That water thing is jargan, they did studies.

you need to make sure you get 2 litres of water a day but some of that water content is in your food so it's not like you have to drink all of it. They've done studies with identical twins and showed as long as there was two litres including food, there was no major differences in them after a month.

perhaps if you were regularly exercising, that amount of liquid would seem plausible but for teh average jo daily consumption, I don't really see it.

I heard about this too, which was why I wondered about the whole 8 glasses thing. I guess that was just a myth.

Buffalo is excellent as is elk. Lean, high in protein, low in fat. Delicious.

More water can't hurt though

All I drink is water, apart from one or two diet cokes a day. I want to cut out all caffeine though. I was caffeine free for about 4 years until 2-3 months ago and said f-ck it I want a coke.

Elk's great. Deer is my fav, when I can actually get some. I used to live with a guy who was a hunter and he had mass amounts of Venison on hand at all times.

Never had a problem around here, the local processor does a great job.

A good processor is a must, too, but most deer that doesn't taste good is because it was mishandled in the field.
