Pho is a Vietnamese noodle dish served with thinly sliced meat.

It's most commonly served with beef and scallions, but there are many variations that come in many variant and diverse flavors.

Some are spicy, but others allow for you to moderate how intense the spice is.

It's very easy to make and requires little ingredients, but still ends up tasting amazing. The thread is for any kind of noodles though. So even if you can only get your hands on "Oodles and Noodles" or if you go half way and get something a little more authentic like Sapporo Ichiban, you can discuss it here.

I personally hate soup. But, Pho is great and is more about the meat, vegetables and noodles than the broth. Also, like I said, this thread is about noodles in general. Dbella, hopefully we can discuss some recipes. I made this thread with you in mind.

You can learn more about Pho here.

My ex-fiance served some pretty decent Pho... mind you, she didn't cook it. She served it. She worked in her parent's Vietnamese restaurant. I love the Pho served in the restaurants where you add what ingredients you want to the soup. It's great tasting stuff.

I thought this was a thread about Photoshop.

I totally read the title wrong and thought it said Pro-Shop...

I was wondering what they would sell in the Hype Pro-shop :o

Funny, I'm trying Vietnamese food for the first time today. This guy at work is bringing me some chicken satay in a few mins.

Nothing but red x's. Faux Pho is my Foe. :cmad:

I don't know if this counts, but there's this Thai Kitchen brand of rice noodle soup in the Lemongrass and Chili flavor. Add some salad shrimp to it and its a meal.

Yes. Pho is made using rice noodles as well, so it does fit. But the thread is about all noodles, so it fits anyway.

I like what you did, adding in the salad shrimp, but here's what you should try if you have the time:

-Buy whole shrimp (it costs less by the pound and is larger than normal shrimp, it also tastes so much better)
-Peel, remove head and shell, and place the shrimp meat in X/O sauce(water, brown sugar, teriyaki or ponzo, and the hottest hot sauce or spice you can find...this is how I make it)
-Begin cooking your noodles with the lemongrass and chili flavor.
-Throw in scallions
-When the water boils add the marinated/coated shrimp.
-Serve with or without broth...

Freakin delicious. Plum sauce FTW!

So...You gonna try some Pho when you get home? It's healthy, I know you work out and stuff so you might be worried about calories and crap. But, Pho by nature is just nutritious. From the thin slices of meat to the vegetables and noodles themselves..

Never had pho but satay chicken.. boy are they yummy. dip those babies in the pickle sauce. dang it's goooood.

I love me some ramen... this is basically the same?

There are lots of Pho places around where I live. I went to a Vietnamese supermarket once, and not only did they have everything you could think of, but the prices were really good.

But is it the same as ramen?

I need an answer before sleepy time or I'll toss n turn all night.

Can this be done w/ chicken as opposed to beef?

Sorry, it took me so long to get back to you. I had left right after that post.

Yes, you can do it with chicken, and if you like chicken better...There's a lot of interesting chicken styles you can do.

For instance, I find that chicken can go to more extremes of sweet or hot or sour than beef can. Also chicken seems to absorb more when you're marinating.

Personal Recipe that I've done for friends:

-Cook white rice, slice scallions and place 1/4 of them on top
-boil water, add the following: Soy sauce, teriyaki, white pepper powder, garlic powder, onion powder, 3/4 of the scallions, ginger powder, bean sprouts, *Vegetables of your choice*(optional), verry small amount of lime or lemon juice.
-When water comes to boil, place in chicken slices. Very thin they sell it at most asian markets. Or you can slice it yourself. Both should be in small slices or chunks.
-Anyways, add in the noodles and this should be done in like 10 minutes.

Depending on how you like your vegetables, you can do the vegetables and bean sprouts last, so that they're crunchy when you eat.

Hope you like it. :)

Essentially, but think of this as ramen with the broth served with it. Depending on how your eat your ramen, it's practically the same thing. That's why I said this is a pho/ramen thread. Same stuff.

Now if we get into soba or udon....that's a little different.

Thanks man. I can go to the land of nod now with all my questions answered, 'cept the ones about time travel, but that's for another thread.

Silver, I am so happy that you associated me with food. I feel very honored for I live to eat.

This thread is about noodles in general, I've been on a Yakisoba rampage lately. Can't get enough of it! I've been having it for the past 4 days, in a row. I think I'm ready to move on to some soup-based noodles dish.

With regards to the posted pics, pictures #2 and #4 made me drool. I LOVE bean sprouts and the chilli in pic two made my mouth water, literally. It does look simple to make. I'll have to search for the recipe of Pho.
