Blakeson in talks to direct WB's 'Imitation Game'
Hot spec script tracks famous WWII codebreaker
By JUSTIN KROLL

J. Blakeson is in negotiations to direct Warner Bros. World War II codebreaking pic "Imitation Game."

The project was considered one of the hottest spec scripts in town when WB acquired it last fall.

Graham Moore penned the work, based on the true story of English mathematician and logician Alan Turing, who helped crack the Enigma code during World War II.

Nora Grossman and Ido Ostrowsky will produce.

"Imitation Game" was recently named number one on The Black List. Warners acquired it with hopes Leonardo DiCaprio would play Turing.

It's unclear whether DiCaprio would still be able to do it after recently committing to "The Wolf of Wall Street" as his next pic. He's currently shooting "Django Unchained."

Blakeson most recently helmed and wrote "The Disappearance of Alice Creed."

Blakeson and Moore are repped by CAA. Blakeson is also repped by David Higham Associates and Bloom, Hergott, Diemer, Rosenthal, LaViolette, Feldman, Schenkman & Goodman.

Has anyone read the script for this? I read it last year and I thought it was great except for the 3rd act which was extremely rushed. They tackled a very important part of Turing's life in just 2 pages.

Read his wiki article and that stuff about castration because he was gay is freaking horrible. Is this the part thats rushed?

Yes. The parts about his prosecution and "treatment" for being gay were super rushed.

Thats too bad. Sems like a very important part of his life that needs to be addressed properly.

Only a few of them joined the cast recently. Cumberbatch and Knightley have been cast for months now.

Well, apart from Keira, this looks great!

^the keira hate always astounds me she is a phenomenal actress with a great body of work and always delivers

i think knightly is so underrated she out acted carey mulligan in never let me go yet carey gets all the love

I know how you feel. The Keira love always astounds me.

Yeah I like Keira. I have no idea where the hate comes from.

This sounds really cool. I'm quite interested in Turing. I've been to Bletchley park and everything!

BTW, which studio is behind this? I know that WB dropped it but is it going indie and get distribution at a film festival?

Interesting. Wasn't cumberbatch due to play Stephen hawking in a biopic as well?

Guy loves his brainiacs!

Really? I'm aware of him doing hawking's narration for a doco but I can't remember him actually playing hawking in a biopic.

Oh well I might be wrong

Agreed on both points and Mulligan is a good actress but I too think Knightley was better in that film. I think Knightley has shown far more range than Mulligan so far as a matter of fact.

I'll watch just about anything with Cumby in it so sign me up for this film.

Turing has always been a tragic figure to me. "Thanks for playing key role in winning WWII, but now we have to arrest you for just being yourself." It wasn't fair and showed a tremendously lack of gratitude for his work. Keira has gotten much better as an actress over the years. I actually look forward to seeing her in movies now, as opposed to when she started out and I rolled my eyes. Cumberbatch is, Cumberbatch, he could make reading a menu at McDonald's sound awesome.

The bump reminded me, Alan Turing got an official pardon from the Queen the other day. Better late than never I guess.

There was a screening today and it's getting great reviews. Like the "OSCAH!!!111 for EVERY1!!!!" type of reviews.

Imagine the "poor Leo" memes if Cumberbatch gets an Oscar for this considering that Leo was supposed to do this before and then he dropped it. :funny:

I think cumberbatch can do it more justice to be honest

Turing's post-WWII treatment was an absolute travesty and a disgrace.
