I think that FF looks like what it is... An adaptation, that yes, is straying from the comics in many regards. Doesn't mean it can't or won't be a good movie, maybe even a great one. I can understand being disappointed by the way the film adaptation is being handled if you are a super hard core FF fan... But disappointment is not what's been brewing in that fandom since the changes came down the grapevine about the FF film. What's been going on with that lot was hate for ANYTHING changed, sight unseen. What's been coming out of that group is the most over the top, conspiracy laden, close minded and negative reactions that basically live up to the caricature of the average genre fan.
The film could still be a mess. Hell, while there's lots I like in this new trailer, I actually thought that the first one's tone in general was more effective. Still, there really was NO REASON to go as over the top negative the way that fandom did. These films are adaptations and from the START, since Donner, they have played fast and loose with all manner of aspects of the source material. In fact, from the start, adaptations have had effects ON the source material. Superman flies because of the Fleischer cartoons. Jimmy Olsen exists because of the radio show. Harley Quinn is a character in the mythos of Batman PURELY because she was popular on the animated show. The "purity" of ideas from the books has never been a thing. EVER. Look... If you have a problem, it's understandable. I was a regular reader of the FF. I DO think it's a damned shame not to get a more close to the source material movie, especially in regards to Dr. DOOM. But I took a deep breath, and moved on with my life, not started obsessing about it and believing in things with no proof what so ever. I certainly wasn't going to react to a picture of some sleeping puppies as the equivalent to a man calling my mother a ****e.
The issue I have isn't that there was a negative reaction... It's that it was so over the top. Now, with the second trailer even some of the posters that have done nothing but bad mouth the movie are, while not totally on board are like, "Hmm... It doesn't look as bad as I thought. It might be good. Just not a pure FF film." Well of course it's not as bad as you thought. Nothing could be when a fanboy lets go of all reason and allows his feverish little mind to view any and all things as some sort of personal affront that he must avenge by venting EVERY DAY on a discussion forum about. Not communing for pleasure. Not sharing ideas. Simply kvetching and accusing any and all that didn't agree with you in totality that this wasn't going to be akin to some personal victimization that they were heretical nonbelievers.
Maybe I too am being guilty here of overstating things. Forgive me. It's just frustrating to see any of our brothers and sisters so readily living up to the cliche of what genre fans are like. Some times it feels like we go out of our way to do that around here.
PS: I am only posting this here because, frankly, the FF threads are still overflowing with lots of blind hate. Emotions are still running wild.
