@Krypton: What're your thoughts on the trailer?
Well... Let me preface this with stating that I am a HUGE Superman fan, that I collected the books for a long time, that my first film was Superman: The Movie... In spite of all of that... I LOVED Man Of Steel. Really felt it was a home run and don't get the hate. Hell, in the theater I knew that the film was going to divide people as I watched it. But I had no idea that it would be AS divisive as it's been among hardcore fans and some critics (the actual general audience is another story. Look up THE AUDIENCE SCORES, not the critics.) and would taint so many people's views on what should be a momentous occasion for the world of super hero fans. I think, for myself, MOS was the Superman film I didn't even know I wanted or thought was possible. We're there choices I disagreed with or things I would have changed if I some how had been in charge? Damn straight. But that doesn't take away from my deep enjoyment of the film and the excitement that it is the cornerstone of the upcoming shared DC COMICS CINEMATIC UNIVERSE.
So, with that out of the way... The trailer for BvS has me very excited for the film's release, which I already was but it took it to another level. It feels like, at least from what can be gleaned from the teaser, a natural progression from where we left off in MOS. The opening dialog portion confirms this and would appear to tackle threads from the previous film which seemed to enrage fans so much, head on. How do we react to an other worldly, seemingly supernatural Titan in the form of a man like this character? How does he react to our reaction? What is the continuing evolution for Superman now that he has decided to openly use his powers and take on the responsibilities that they force on him? What lessons must he perhaps learn about his limitations, self imposed or practical, on his actions? I find that just thinking about such story concepts makes me happy. Add in a continuation of the textured visual style of Snyder and the further expansion of the absolutely necessary elements of the mythos such as the inclusion of Lex Luthor into the mix and... Yeah. This all sounds very intriguing with great entertainment potential for somebody like me.
But wait... THERE'S MORE! I also get a new, perhaps more closer to the comic book version of the character Batman. Ben affleck certainly looks the part and seeing him out of the costume as Bruce, his face awash in perhaps a frustrated rage lets me think that Batman will be well handled. The first look of him in costume in motion was pretty breathtaking.
In terms of judging the trailer away from pure fan stuff, I liked that it wasn't a trailer about just money shots and SFX. It seemed to be about conveying theme and character. Which for a first trailer is smart for this sort of film. Wow me later with giant spectacle. Save that for later trailers. This one set the table well and made me long for these next 11 months to fly by. There is certainly enough material to fuel speculation for quite some time.
So... Yeah... I guess you could say I liked it.
