Good lord jus look at that shade of green :waa:

people writing that the cg of the new hulk is (way)better than lee's version is a desperate case of fans forcing to convince themselves that this movie will not fail.

i have not seen the film yet, but from the clips and the trailers the cg looks simply the worst ever put on screen.

i hope in the big screen it will look better.

After seeing the 'cave scene', I can't rate the cg enough. Subtle nuances in emotion, the way it is lit in the thunderstorm, the way Hulk carries Betty and the rain on his skin!

ACE!

Whatever kiddo.
TIH may not have the best CG in the world, but it's certainly not the worst. There's thousands of low budget 90s movies that attempted CG and failed.

Ivan Ooze anyone?

i personally like the pre-changed version better.

if you guys notice, its not just the CG that's an issue. the general effects look bad. the way EB is jumping around, the helicopter against the night skyline, norton falling to the ground, they all look terrible. it's not just the CG, which , is actually starting to look look decent, even though there are still some scenes that has issues.

Whatever kiddo.

you compared TIH to a movie 15 years older with a budget 1/5 the size of the hulk? come on now.

but i do agree that calling it the worst CG is a bit of an exaggeration, even if it is still a bit sketchy in some of the scenes.

I haven´t seen it (I´m gonna have to wait one more week:cmad:) but:

- I partially agree

- I dissagree

- I hope that too

haha omg that name brought back so many memories :woot:

After reading through most of the reviews, I fail to understand how the cgi can both be great and terrible at the same time? Almost all negative reviews have the obligatory "looks like a video game" joke somewhere. On the flipside, alot of the positive reviews say its very good, which one is it people? I plan to catch it tonight so that I can judge for myself, but I suspect just as people bashed Ang's cgi only to praise it years later (some people that is) I think this new Hulk will look just fine, and maybe down the road, will get its just desserts

I think basically if you like the movie, you will like the CGI, if you hate it, you will say the CGI sucked...

I find it hard to see someone liking the CGI but hating the movie or viceversa

What I loved about the '03 Hulk, is his eyes. There is a soul to his eyes. It's as if he's snickering the same time he's unholy pissed.

There is no soul in the 2008 one. Dead and plastic as Tom Hank's CGI crapfest.

Polar Express?

Didn't I hear somewhere that the basis of the Hulk '03 physicality was based off the competitors of the World's Strongest Man competitions, where they don't look exactly ripped but they have bulk muscle ... which some here have confused as fat?

And the Incredible Hulk '08 has the physical stature based off a linebacker, kind of a more ripped albeit athletic physique.

I got that right? And if so, which do you all prefer as Hulk fans.

It's not unheard of. I thought Kong was boring as all hell. But the CG was amazing. 10,000 BC was a terrible movie. But the creatures and effects looked great.

A truly great movie can make you see passed effects that aren't that stellar. I don't think it works the other way.

Saw the movie tonight and liked it a lot. Anyway on to the cgi, it was inconcistent, in some parts mediocre in some parts awesome. The cave scene and the shot of hulk holding betty in the middle of the fire and rain falling down his face those are some of the greatest cgi moments I've ever seen in a film. The cave scene had amazing cgi, hulk really came to live in that scene just beautiful. The shot of him holding betty before running away with her unconscious body is just amazing. The way the water runs down his cheeks and the skin texture on his face and the lifelike quality and emotion on his eyes reminded me a lot of PJ's king kong. I can't understand why the rest of the movie while having good cgi didn't really live up to those scenes I just mentioned.

But with that said all in all they did an amazing job and the final fight was just like I expected which is good. I loved hulk struggling with abom trying to put him down
with the giant chain

They're kind of odd analogues for visual inspiration. The powerlifter/Hulk '03 one works a bit, in that, though there are examples of shredded, vascular WSM competitors, on the whole the sport doesn't really call for it - shaping the collective image of those athletes. The linebacker/Hulk '08 one is similar, but linebackers generally aren't that shredded. And both are examples of athletic physiques, just for different athletes. New Hulk is really more of a bodybuilder with long arms and small lats, almost an extremely idealized heavyweight boxer or something.

Totally agree with you, I just came back from seeing it, and while I thought his face was way more consistent than '03, his movements were inconsistent in parts. Actually, I dont think I can say on the whole that the cg was better than Angs, I actually think their pretty equal for different reasons.

That being said, I give the nod to this film because I felt for the first time that I was really watching the Hulk! He spoke, he didn't grow, he wasn't wearing a terrible wig with green slippers, I mean it was the Hulk this time, and you can't say enough about Norton, the man was great and Liv also, much to my surprise. She has a real chemistry with Ed, so while she doesnt exactly come across as the scientist type, you do believe they have real feelings for each other.

The CGI was ok when it wasn't important. They were able to get away with a few weird looking scenes, but otherwise, it was excellent where it counted. Some shots were truly amazing.

You clearly have only seen a few movies then. :whatever:

Hmmm, I thought I remember reading Lou Terrier said he based the new Hulk off a linebacker. And I've seen quite a few linebackers that are totally ripped ...

The cgi overall was great, some points being a bit iffy other points being mind blowing. I will say this, I thought the idea of glowing eyes on the hulk was a great idea at first but in the end it distracted from the realism of the character, for me atleast.

Just got back from this, and I gotta say... I thought the CGI was pretty bad, not "the worst ever", or whatever... but certainly not very impressive. People who think this looked (consistently) better than Hulk '03... I... I just don't comprehend that. To me it's like someone's looking at a clear blue sky saying "It's purple." Does not compute.
To me, this CGI was consistently distracting... :(

There were a few good moments in there in terms of CGI, but just a few.

If you enjoy the CGI more, that's fine by me. Just trying to explain my position.

Added by Edit:
Some of the comments in this thread and the review thread just confound me. People are saying this looked realistic and "blends in perfect with the environment". I feel like I saw a different movie.

The CGI definitely wasn't as good as the first film. The last film's Hulk didn't look as intense, but at least it looked life-like. They should probably bring ILM back in for a sequel.
